Hi Folks,
I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the best rally sim out
there?
TIA

I really don't think it's a physics prob, I think it's a controller prob.
Both RT and F12K1 are crippled by lousy calibration routines, making the
games far more difficult than they need to be. (Even Rally C'ship is
*almost* unplayable 'cuz of twitchy controls.) By contrast, Papy's calib
routines have been flawless since IndyCar Racing (as is their replay
interface). Why they don't just license this clear thinking out and sit
back to count their money is beyond me....

That has been the worst thing about games for me. After getting so pampered
with GPL and how it kept my attention and not having to constantly***
with it to get the game to work properly, I am just flat mad at companies
who cannot get a game to work with a simple controller like the TSW stock.
Its real simple since its either a 2 or 4 axis controller( if you have split
axis with the clutch). RT has been a fun game, but things get old when you
have to open up files and start tweaking them. Its one reason Rally Champ
is not on my drive anymore. I got real tired of searching for the rright
feel to get rid of that stupid sticky grass. So far I am reasonably happy
with RT, tho I would really be happier if Split Axis worked as well as it
did in the Papy games I have.
Dave
Split axis seems to work ok here in RT. I just picked it up tonight. I set
my wheel to combined pedals in my MS profiling software and I was really
frustrated in RT because I had no braking power, set my wheel to split axis
and then my brakes worked fine. I can drive the Minicooper OK, but the other
cars don't feel so great. My biggest gripe is that since applying the patch
I get the below error when exiting the game and there seems to be a memory
leak or something else going on in this game. I kept switching to different
cars and I was getting really bad frame rates and stuttering, if I stick
with the Minicooper then the frame rate is good. Anyone else get the below
error when exiting RT?

Stack dump:
DON'T GIVE UP! There's a tiny (500K; I'll send it to you if you email me)
pgm. called Ralwiz that you use as a launcher for Rally Championship: you
choose values (from 50 to 150%) for traction on not only the grass, but also
ice, snow, tarmac, and gravel, as well as for damage, gravity, engine, and
brake power.
You also use it to allow you to save the game between stages, not run out of
time, skip the .avi at launch, and lose the annoying tendency to get stuck
in neutral after a spin...or a shunt.
I also use DXTweak to cut the deadzone from the default 5% to zero (which
helps other games, like GPL, as well) to soften the twitchy steering.
That, the 5.30 patch, and a couple of "after-market" car mods (like the
superfast Renault Clio), you got yerself a RALLY sim!
