What's the best rally sim out there?

RAC Rally Championship by Magnetic Fields and published by Europress is
ok, but it's a DOS game that doesn't use your graphics card though the
graphics are pretty good for all that. Their are some flaws in the
driving model but it's great fun. Their later version, International
Rally Championship is a Windows 95 version that uses the graphics card
but the graphics don't strike me as much better and I think the tracks
(but not the cars) are imaginary and it's not licensed by any Rally
organisation. It's also more arcadey in feel that RRC. But Colin McRae
Rally by Codemasters is out in the next month or so and should be very
good indeed if TOCA is anything to go by.

Hi,
RAC Rally Championship is the best sim out at the moment, but wait till mid
Augest and you'll have the option of buying Colin McRae Rally. This is the
lastest rally game to make it's way onto the market and is produced by the
excellent Codemasters (TOCA). There is no demo yet...
I've played it on PSX, and it's superb, combining great visuals with good
sound, excellent handling, realism and fun.

I agree about Colin McRae Rally but I'm not conviced about Rally
Championship being the best currently.
I got it after reading good things about it here but was very
dissappointed.

It all depends on how you define 'SIM'. For me, the only thing that
matters is how the cars handle. Without that all the setups and
accuracy of tracks etc are a complete waste.

I'd go for Screamer 2 or Screamer Rally. They are really arcade rather
than true sims and still don't handle like real cars but the handling
is infinitely more real than Rally Chapionship and you definitely get
more of a feeling that you are driving a real car.

Why not try both and make up your own mind? I'm pretty sure demos are
available on the net.

Of course, if your cash is limited you definitely should wait for
McRae Rally.
That said you can probably get both Rally Championship and S2 in the
bargain bins so why not get both? They are both good in their own
ways.

And if you live in the UK you can get them both in the same box together with
Need for Speed for about 25.
