I realize that since the full game isnt out yet (even the warez is a
beta), but does anyone know how modifiable GPL will be?  Is it
conceivable that someone could do a CART or F1 (modern) or NASCAR mod
for GPL?  Touring cars would be cool too...

i read i think on the apex forum that GPL is to be the Quake of racing
games.  let's hope and see.

But if that's the type of game you want to play is there much point in
getting GPL? It's like buying a refrigerator for the sole purpose of
sitting on it:)

Cheers!

Ah...  but couldn't you imagine period racing on proper tracks?
Cortinas versus Galaxies on Silverstone, perhaps?  Or maybe one could go
back a decade earlier and have Ferrari, Mercedes, and Jaguar duking it
out in sports car racing?

All I know is that if all this is possible, I'm working on a
300SLR as soon as I can!

But yes, the modern NASCAR idea is a bit dumb.  No offence, Brian!

How about 1950's American cars.  I can see (and hear) it now, a dozen huge
sedans in a corner heeled over like the Queen Mary.

It would be REAL nice if we could enter our own (real) cars' parameters and
see how they would do out on the track.

Good point.

1960's Sportscars would be fun.... But I still can't see that modern F1
and CART fit in here. As long as we're all having fun!

Cheers!

Next time I won't be so lazy and look up the correct spelling of "Chaparral" :-
)   this from Tom Burnsides book, "American Racing" page 280.  BTW, can I
change my vote to the Cobra GT Coupe?

Marc, the new ETA site is brilliant. I spent many years as a marshal and
photographer at Riverside and still miss it. Did we really need another
shopping mall in Southern California?

And of Ontario, all I can say is, it finally gave me an understanding of what
high-speed oval racing was all about. One practice day I was sitting out a rain
delay in the garage of Jim Hall and Al Unser, Sr. They were kind enough to
share with this youngster :-)  the fine points of ovals, how the car is set up
differently from road courses and how much strategy goes into a 500 mile race.
The lanky Texan and the quiet New Mexican were my heros from that time on.

Doh!  =P

Sure thing, 'cept there's only one and I got dibs!  There's actually
a shell sitting around somewhere that would have made the 7th coupe
(last I heard it was in England), but alas never got a set of doors
(nor engine, drivetrain, etc.).

The surviving example (I don't think there's another?) is currently
owned by Carroll himself, having rescued it from Japan.  The car at the
time (early '80's) had been fitted with turn-signals atop the fenders,
a Chevy 350 under the hood, and a ton of Bondo beneath a rippled skin.

  :(

Shelby sent a friend to Japan to buy the car, and then brought it back
to the states where it sat in the hangars at the Torrance airport for
two years while being restored...

The body was in such sad shape that it had to be completely rebuilt,
using the same hand-fashioning techniques used during the '60's.  When
it came time to refit the 289 V8, the only one that was available was
the very_last_one that had come off the Shelby production line!

Poetic for such a wonderful machine.  =)

Oh yes!...We need tons of 'em!  The only problem that the developers
continue to choose the interesting sites (like race tracks) and over-
look the better (and more desirable) sites like:

 - Trailer parks
 - DMV buildings
 - Other shopping malls
 - Cleveland

Gadzooks!  Man...wish I'd been there!  Thanks for the comments on ETA.

Cheers!

Marc

Marc, there are six surviving Cobra GT Coupes in the world.
