then - nothing! Anyone heard any news - does it really exist? Is it
tied up in worries about online cheating?
Anyone? Bueller?

Hmmm - an assumption based on a rumour. I think I wanted GPL72 to
exist a little too much!
So sad - I know Dave K. has admitted to testing high-downforce
modifications to GPL, and I bet they'd love to do it, but the a-holes
at Sierra can't see past the cash cow that is NASCAR :(. Yeah - I
know it's just business realities - but it still *hurts* ;)...

WAS a mod being built....I can't confirm that tho.

See above...
There was (and "maybe" is) a group of GPL fans working on a
patch/mod/add-on to "Classic GPL" that would modify the physics and
graphics to allow for high downforce, 1972 and beyond, F1 racing.
That word became public when someone with the patch joined a Monza pickup
race on VROC and =walked=away=from=the=field=, with literally unbelievable
cornering and straight line speeds.
I haven't heard any more about that project in several weeks.
If you really want to stay current on GPL, I recommend two forums (fora?)
besides this one:
RaceSimCentral, which used to be Legends Central, is very good:
http://forum.racesimcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=36
The RACEsim English language GPL forums are less prolific, but still
significant:

Enjoy,
Chris.
