Nope, formula cars just isn't my thing and GPL hasn't been installed on
my racing PC for a couple of years now, I may install it just to see how
good these mods are, but I seriously doubt I'd put any time into
actually driving it....sorry

Something I've been wondering - didn't F1 cars pit for fuel and tires
in the 50's? I thought that the main advantage of the mid-engined
Cooper in 58 was that it didn't put as much wear on the tires. The
first race it was driven, Moss ended up winning even though the car
was off the pace because they were the only team that didn't pit.
From what I've read, I would think that tire wear modelling would be
essential for a 55 sim.

Assuming you mean any results of the physics editing project, then if they
come up with a season with cars I like then yes. I doubt they will, mind,
unless they find a trick to come up with aero forces (not simulated in the
orig. GPL)
Excuse me, this is the second time in 3 days someone has posted a message,
seemingly assuming everyone knows about a certain something being discussed
on what I can only assume is one of the simracing related webforums.
I would like to remind you not everyone who frequents RAS also visits these
forums.
I would also like to ask people who would like to broaden a certain
discussion onto RAS to provide either a synopsis of the topic, quoting it's
origin, or a link to the discussion. Usenet is not a platform for "in-crowd"
discussion.
I cannot imagine what you or Damien are attempting to acchieve starting
threads like this. Posting something for discussion without telling what the
discussion is about is pointless. Even as a veiled plug to get visitors to
one's forum of choice, these messages fail as it's not clear where the topic
originated.

Yeah, the mid-engined layout made it handle a lot better, and also used all
of the tyres much more effectively. Also, with the engine in the back, it
made the entire car much more streamlined, instead of punching a hole in the
air with the engine at the front of the car. Amazing really, that they only
put the engine in the back because they wanted to chain-drive the rear
wheels, like on the bikes they were racing at the time, and it turned out to
be that much of an unexpected improvement.
Well... it's no GPL (but I'll drive them all =)

Damn straight. Its for those of us who***off at work and can't get to
web forums due to company filters! lol

What GPL mod? You've got to be more specific than that!!

Thanks Dan... having had a cursory read, I don't see what the fuss is about.
Surely there is but one way forward with GPL and that is to modify the game
itself. Whether to correct perceived (and actual) inaccuracies, create extra
cars for the '67 season (different model Coopers, McLaren, etc..), creating
proper F2 and F3 cars for the original sim or going ahead and making a
"total conversion" for GPL. Some of these mods will be more successfull than
others, both conceoptionally and actually, but to go and condemn it from the
off for fear of whatever is just unrealistic, IMO.

I agree Jan. The engine swapper was hotly debated as the nail in GPL's coffin,
and now the suggestion of altering physics is considered the end of it. I'd love
some quality mods like we get for many other sims. Greater variety might add to
the multiplayer e***ment rather than detract from it, especially in organised
leagues. VROC was hardly full of Brabham Lotuses last time I looked. 1960s
touring cars or maybe Aussie V8s anyone?
Cheers
