GPL: what has happened lately.

by Han Monsee » Wed, 28 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Hi,

Due to server trouble, I haven't been able to read this NG for a while.
I was wondering what are the new developments in editing GPL tracks and
cars since the beginning of this year.

Greetings, Han Monsees

It's a brave new world in GPLville...
Let's see, hum
1.    there is a couple of sound packs available through "The Pits" or
"Eagle Woman's" sites.
2.    there is a rockin track converter available from "The Pits" so we may
run some ICR2/N2 tracks in GPL.
3.    there is a "new" track available from "The Pits" called Dubai.
4.    You may use a standalone program called "GPL SpyBoy" to race online.
See VROC or Eaglewoman's sites for details.
5.    there are some real fast cats racin out there.
6.    my wife is fed up with me racin all the time.
7.    there is a cool mod outthere, it gives us redlined tach's.
8.    somebody beat the 8:00 mark at the ring.
9.    GPL 1.1 should be here very soon.
10.    DOH!  brain freeze...cant think of anything else...hey guys, anything
else?. . . . .

Get the new sounds here, awesome!  Get the new dash's here, awesome!
The track converter here, not as awesome but worth getting. If you need
some more links let me know I have over 200 seperate GPL sites bookmarked.

LOL, Todd! Can I add...

21. Jack Rambo woke up long enough to finish GPaL - "The Essential Companion
to GPL" a single screen interface to GPL that will allow everyone to, among
other things, do the following.

GPaL Features:

a. Select Track, Mode, Car, and Driver from fast, easy, familiar dropdown
lists. Tired of joining a race only to discover you're driving the wrong
car, have the wrong setup, or are using the wrong driver?

b. Select car type (F1/2/3) from a dropdown without having to create a new
driver and edit an INI file.

c. Select grid layouts from a dropdown.

d. Select race distances of virtually any length at any level (Novice,
Intermediate, Pro) using a slider.

e. Select AI strength using a single slider and maintain a history of AI
settings for training purposes (by car by track by driver). If you think
you're too fast or too slow for the AI, you haven't tried GPaL!

f. Select the *range* of speeds of the AI (i.e. infinitely variable between
tight and loose) using a slider. Makes for incredible racing and the best
training available anywhere if you create a tightly bunched field at your
current speed. If this won't teach you to concentrate, nothing will!

g. Select a car type for the entire AI field from a dropdown so that you can
really test your mettle by having single marque races with the AI.

h. Select user-defined graphic settings from a dropdown without having to
change to a different driver or make changes to the GPL options screen.

i. Select virtually every other option buried across the many, slow GPL
screens from a single screen.

j. Enjoy all this and more possibly as soon as this weekend.

22. Jack Rambo begins planning a larger-scale, yet more manageable
reincarnation of NTT. NTT II anyone?

You are just plain SCARY, that's what you are.  And all the while I was feeling
content with finally learning Silverstone and having a semi-normal nightlife
again.  Now I'm doomed!  Maybe if I try winding my Celery up to 600mhz it'll
explode and I can escape.........

Simply Amazed,

What's happened lately? Garth got pube's! LOL sorry, damn I love that film!

Anyway, mostly, GPL has started to take hold of people's being, they cannot
let it go, and quite frankly what the hell am I doing here! I'm off to
VROC!!!
