This is the reply I got when I emailed Ubisoft recently:

there is a patch already in production that is addressing both controller
and AI issues.it should be available in the near future from
http://www.ubisoft.co.uk/support/

Thx. Let's hope it's the very near future. I just bought this sim
yesterday and I see an excellent sim ruined by the worst AI I have
ever seen in a racing game.

The patch needs to address more than just controller and AI issues.  I can't
run F1RC unless I delete the Saves/Configs folder before each session.  And
that's even if I've just rebooted.  Never seen anything like it before and
I've tried everything I can think of--game and desktop res set the same,
turning on and off every graphics option in the game one option at a time
(and dammit that gets tiresome!), enditall and killhelp--nothing works.

What happened to the F1RC patch?

Try this.  Before you start the game, push down on both your brake and gas
pedal until they are halfway to the floor.  Then start the game and hold
them that way until after you click the '1 player' button.  Then you can
release them and try racing.  I have to do this or it screws up my controls.
I think what happens is that when the game starts, it looks at all of your
input axis and expects them to be 'centred' or it will think you haven't
calibrated and messes the controls up.

Good luck,

What happened to the F1RC patch?

by chainbreake » Fri, 04 May 2001 07:49:49

Well, my problem is that unless I delete the Configs folder, F1RC either
dumps me to the desktop or freezes the computer at the track loading screen.
Doesn't matter if I've rebooted the machine or not.  Once I leave the sim, I
have to delete that folder to run it again.  Period.

I'm willing to try the suggestion, though.  At this point I'm desperate. :-)

I don't have that problem, all I can suggest it dump the game until
the patch is out. Can you seriously finish a race in this game without
being knocked out by some kamaikaze AI conrolled player?

Gad, who knows?  All my time in F1RC has revolved around running a hot lap,
changing settings, deleting files then rebooting the computer.  I could try
running a race, I guess, but the bug I'm experiencing aggravates the hell
out of me to do that.

I'm going to wait until the patch and/or I get the new vid card and see what
happens.  If the problem's still there after that I'll have an imported copy
of F1RC for sale.
