GPL - Voodoo3 Darkness Fixed

GPL - Voodoo3 Darkness Fixed

After weeks of searching (ever since I bought my V3 2000,
actually) I've finally found a cure to the low gamma levels in GPL.
It's an old Banshee glide driver copied into the GPL directory.  I'm
not sure what the exact version number is, but the file GLIDE2X.DLL is
dated 10-10-98 and is 305,664 bytes in size.  If anyone who's had
similar problems (Calling Ed Bain!) wants it, please email me.

The side effects of using this driver are texture corruptions
in higher resolutions i.e. 800x600 and up (though this should be
addressed by the forthcoming patch), and an increase in frame rate
over the current V3 retail drivers.  The latter was an unexpected
surprise!

Now if only I could find a way to fix my low gamma levels in
Grand Theft Auto...

Why not just turn up the GAMMA level in V3 control panel ? Thats
what I did. Am I missing something here?

The Gamma setting for Glide in the V3 control panel has no effect... at
least it doesn't for me.

When using the current retail V3 drivers, the gamma slider in
Voodoo3 Tweaks affects only the gamma levels for Direct3D applications
and the desktop.  Turning up the Glide gamma slider only brightens the
3dfx splash screen.

????????  It works fine for me, with a V32000 & Mag 17" monitor.  I don't have
the RGB bars locked, and spent some time tweaking them for just the right color
balance in GPL.  No problem at all with darkness or ineffective sliders.
Hmmmm.

Hmmmm!  What version of V3 drivers are you using?  I'd really
like to pin down the source of this problem so that I can change the
gamma levels of my other "darkened" Glide games.

By the way, what's your monitor's refresh rate set at?

>Hmmmm!  What version of V3 drivers are you using?

I'm still using the ones that shipped with the game: 4.11.01.0441-1.00, dated
3/20/99. I'm also using Gary Petersen's V3 Overclocker 2.4 to run the card at
170mhz, where it's happy as a clam(it ran ok, but with a few minor graphical
glitches at 175 - haven't tried more).  I have Vsync turned off and Video
Filter on HQ.

Cheers,
