GPL and Voodoo3

GPL and Voodoo3

I just bought GPL to use on my new Voodoo3 (2000) and it seems like they are
not compatible.   After installing it (and rebooting-ugh), I started the
game and configured all my options.   Now when I actually start playing, the
ground and background textures are all bright blue.    What is wrong here?

I tried the update util that came with it, but it hung and never responded
so I had to kill it and reboot.

Any ideas?   All the other games run fine on my system (with the exception
of Unreal, which strangely enough has the same blue-background problem, sort
of).

Here's a fix (until 3dfx fix it)

instead of running GPL from either a shortcut from the desktop
or through the directory
create a small batch file with this in :

SET FX_GLIDE_TMU_MEMSIZE=8
Gpl.exe

so save the file xxxx.bat and place it in your GPL dir
you can make a shorcut of that batch file on the desktop if you
want.

Also make sure in Control Panel / Display / Settings / Advanced / 3DFX
TWEAKS under Glide / Open GL that Use Higher quality but lower
performance video is  ON (check mark), all the other option are off
(Force mipmap, limit texture mem to 2MB, force triple buffering).
DISABLE SPLAS SCREEN
doesn't have any effect apart having or not the 3DFX logo at the start.

Have fun, Eric

 Control Panel / Display / Settings / Advanced / 3DFX
TWEAKS under Glide / Open GL that Use Higher quality but lower
performance video ---> doesn't need to be ON, just tried it.

That seems to make it a little better, but the (distant) background is still
screwed up.  Instead of bright blue, pieces of it are missing.   Is this a
known bug with GPL and V3?

For some reason the 3dfx properties tab doesn't appear in my control
panel/display applet.   I have Powerstrip, which (I think) allows me to do
the equivalent.

Make sure you have installed 3DFX TOOLS (on the CD), cause when i
installed the drivers, it didn't installed 3DFX tools , i had to go back
to the CD, then clicked  on that.

for the garlble image in the distance, i don't have that, all is fine
here, except in replay mode at Monaco, i saw irregularities. But while
driving, everything is fine

Try running at Nurbering (sp).  This track seems to be screwed up.  I have
played GPL on a V2-SLI config without any problems too.   It just seems to
be screwed up on V3.

Anyone try running with the Banshee drivers (placed in the GPL dir)?  I know
with Unreal you need this if you own a V3 2000 (V3 3000 ships with a working
unreal).

Just make a bat file for GSB in your GSB directory with the following:

SET FX_GLIDE_TMU_MEMSIZE=8
GPLSPYBOY.exe

The texture memory will still be set to 8MB when Spyboy starts GPL.  I race
online at 1024x768 on my V3 with no problems.
