The Rendition version of ICR2 was only available bundled with the "Screamin'
3D" video card a couple of years ago.  The regular, retail version had no 3D
support.  Maybe someone can tell you where files or patches are posted, or
perhaps you can check with the Sierra web site or ICR2 sites.

Hello

I decided to take ICR 2 for a spin again :).

I discovered that I have an older version of ICR2 ("It was called Indycar
racing 2"..the version in the blue box)).  It is Windows 95 ready.  But...I'm
trying to get it to run in Rendition graphic mode, but I can't.  Everything
seems to be leoading right, and I can play in SVGA.  Is there anything that I
am overlooking?  Thanks!!

The Rendition ICR2 is a 24-bit version of ICR2. It's a complete version on
it's own, like the version for win95 & DOS.  Unless I misunderstood your
problem, no you can't patch or upgrade your current version to make it
Rendition like.

I originally bought the game in August of '96, I then lost it.  I bought it
again about 9 months ago, but this time it was called CART Racing and it
came with an additional version, the Rendition version.

Though the Sim Project has update kits for the tracks, it's for the
Rendition version and does work for other versions.  That's If I'm not
mistaken.

You read everything right.  A guy told me just plunk down $19.00 and get CART
Racing.  Out the dooor to do it...

sorry for the mistake, I have a tendency to completely leave out words.  A
bad typist & by the time the words travel from my head to my fingers, some
words get lost. Sort of like an internet connection.

so what your saying is that if you have ICR2, there is no way to rendition it?

TSP has the Rendition patch in...what else?...the Patches section.  =)
The only thing missing is the enhanced tracks that shipped with the
retail version.

Cheers!

The Rendition Patch is for video cards with the Rendition Verite 2100 &
v2200 chipsets.
You need this patch if you have a video card with one of those chipsets.
The patch does not make the standard ICR2 DOS version into Rendition .

But, to answer your question, you need the Rendition version of ICR2.
In other words, The Rendition version is a 24-bit DOS version of the regualr
DOS version.

To run a Rendition version:
-video card with Rendition Verite 2100/2200 chipset
-Rendition patch
-The DOS Rendition version of ICR2

On my CD, I have the the foloowing versions.
-win95 version (Root directory/primary version on CD
-DOS (regular 8-bit DOS version with no patches pre-installed
-REND (enhanced 24-bit version of the DOS version.

DOS - images are in 256 colors
REND - images are 16 million colors

Sierra did make a patch that added/replaced the EXE file to run in 3D
for the v1000 cards...You'll find it in the patches section on TSP.

Cheers!

Is it worth buying CART Racing for the redone Rendition tracks or should I just
stick with ICR2 and go download tracks patches off the internet?

CART Racing (aka ICR2) can be found for about $10 bucks, and it comes
with a swell strategy guide by Steve Smith.  Worth every penny IMHO.

Cheers!

ahhh, i didn't know that.  So you can run in 24-bit graphics without needing
the Rendition version?

Yes, provided you have tracks with *16* bit graphics.  It's simply a
new EXE that was intended to address problems with the Cyrix chip, but
is nonetheless a bonafide Rendition EXE.

Cheers!

But isn't the DOS version in 256 colors.  So for the patch to work you'll
need the Rendition version (16/24 bit graphics), right?

I'm still learning, just trying to figure it out.
