CART Racing "is" ICR2 but repackaged. However it does include
the Win95 version(avoid it at all costs), the dos version, {use it if you
don't
have a rendition based video card} and inside the dos folder is the
Rendition
3d version of the game.
the difference is twofold, one is speed, if you have a Rendition based
video card, you won't beleive how fast the framerate is with all the details
maxed out. Car control vastly improves with 30fps.
2nd. 5 of the tracks have upgraded 3d graphics that really pull you in,
the difference is not like Day to Night, but if you run the 3d tracks for a
while
and then putz around in the win version without Anti Aliasing...you'll be
saying
BLECH! faster than the cars go.
Many websites have made patches that upgrade ALL of the tracks to
3d graphic shine. They are really nice. But...
IF YOU DON'T HAVE A RENDITON BASED VIDEO CARD, you won't get any
benefit from the rendition version. There used to be a Cyrix patch at the
Sierra
website that allowed the older icr2 game to be upgraded.
The only difference between the 1.0 and the 1.02 is that with v1.02, all
the patches
have already been installed.
NO, ABSOLUTELY NO 3dfx or OpenGl versions will ever be made or patched.
Personally, I have the CART version and a 2nd Generation Rendition 3d
card.
This has a slight incompatiblity with the program and you have to run a
bunch of
batch files to get the sucker to run right. Now an admission:
Due to my involvement in the Touring car series based on N99. I ONLY use
the
CART package as a set of tracks to be converted to N99 or N2 to run Touring
cars
on the ICR2 road and street courses. It's been ages since I've driven
those
touchy Champ cars in anger...:)
