MS Sisewinder FFB Wheel and XP

All,
I have recently upgraded my OS to WinXP Pro and am unable to get the
Sidewinder control software to load.  I am able to race F12001 using FFB and
it works, however, I'd like to have the customization offered in Microsoft's
original software.  I've tried running the setup in compatibility mode and
it still doesn't work.  Has anyone figured this one out?

BTW, how crappy is it that MS hasn't even supported it's own hardware in
this case since Win98SE?!!!  WTF?

Thanks,
  Chris

a very old problem... MS only ever released the full FFB software for
win9x.... basic drivers only for 2k/XP. you can't install the software in
compatibility mode.. the software is a driver and has to conform to the
driver model used by 2k/XP which is considerably different than 9x. there is
no alternative but to have a dual-boot system for full FFB functionality...
or, buy a logitech/thrustmaster/etc wheel which should have working FFB in
2k/XP.

Hmm...I just installed the MS Sidewinder 4.0 software for my MSFFB (usb)
wheel, it complained but still installed and I can still use it to set split
axis mode, which is all I wanted it for.
