Is it possible that the video card (3dfx) is overheating?

says...

You didn't say what version of Windows you're using, and I don't know if
you're using any of this stuff, but try these things:

1) Turn off your screen saver (or use the "Blank Screen"
screensaver), and reset the activation time to no
   less than 60 minutes.

2) Don't use any of the fancy animated mouse cursors.

3) Set your desktop to 16-bit color.

If it still doesn't work, you may have non-game issues to resolve.
Repport back here with your results.

Good luck.

Try using the Glide 2.53 (directx5 ) voodoo 2 reference driver's ,
apparently the Glide 2.54 (direct x 6 ) causes lockups in GPL.

GPL Locking Everything Up

Thanks to other posts (and M. Carver) I think I fixed my screen lockups in
GPL with Direct X6 and Monster 3D 2.
Seems that DirectX6 (that is needed for new games) replaces the V2 glide
files with new ones that have problems with GPL.
I just downloaded the rkv2.exe (reference V2 driver files) file from here
http://www.3dfx.com/software/RkV2.exe
, unzipped it to a temp folder(dont install) and place the following files
in the main GPL directory.
glide2x.dll
glide3x.dll
glide2x.ovl
(Actually I think you only need the glide2x.dll file)
Then GPL will use these files and other games will use the glide files in
the Windows directory.
Also with M3D 2 will crash if its set above 90Mhz. I have two 12MB M3d 2's
in SLI with Stealth cooling fans and another fan to pull the air away. I
have a temp gauge on the V2 chip that reads 115 F with GPL (10 deg. cooler
than Unreal) but GPL still locks up when I set the M3d 2 above 90Mhz.So with
M3D 2 the performance slide adjuster in the advanced menu should be set to
90Mhz, then select Apply, then OK and then restart W95/98. I found that if
you dont restart the computer, then it will jump up to 95Mhz when you run
GPL (weird).
This worked for me so maybe its the fix until a new driver or patch is out.
Lutrell :-)

You only need the Glide2x.dll in the GPL folder.

The POWER button doesn't work?  Did Dell disable the power button too?  The new
Compaq Deskpros sometimes do that...
