Installing GPL in Win XP?

Installing GPL in Win XP?

Been a while since I have had GPL installed, not since I built this new
system with XP anyways.
Anything I should know upfront about installing GPL? I know I will want to
get both the direct3d patch and the speed patch right? Does it have to be
run in a compatibility mode?
Driving F12002 is making me yearn for GPL again, it has been off my hard
drive for too long :).

make sure disk indexing is turned on or all you will get is a crash to
desktop.

to turn on disk indexing on click on "my computer"
right click on the hard drive icon and select "properties"

at the bottom of the properties page there is a box that say "allow index
service to access this disk" or something like that.put a check in the box
and XP will do some stuff and GPL should work.

I can't confirm that *everyone* needs to do this, but there are several
people here who has solved their problems with GPL under WinXP with NTFS
by doing so

I'm guessing this only applies with NTFS?  I have indexing disabled
and no problems.

I can verify that I do NOT need to turn on any kind of indexing.

(Btw, "allowing indexing" of a disk doesn't turn on any indexing. To turn on
indexing you must start the indexing service. Most folders are allowed for
indexing by default.)

Hmm, that's wierd - wonder how disk indexing would effect that?
I prefer to leave it off, but if that is what it takes...

If you are using NTFS, you need to at least use it for the GPL directory.  You also need to rename
riched20.dll in the vroc folder if you are using vroc online.

Installing GPL in Win XP?

by Roger Squire » Tue, 08 Oct 2002 06:05:10

In my case my dual-axis modded T2 Thrustmaster wheel was not working
properly in XP.  The fix is to Add a new controller in XP, then hit the
Custom button, specify Race Car Controller and 3axis with Zaxis, and
calibrate as usual.  Then GPL behaved properly.

Also, you may experience sound problems with GPL, in my case tire squeal was
almost inaudible.  The fix was to lower the sound acceleration slider to one
notch above Basic.  This fixed the problem without causing any noticeable
sideeffects.

It's on by default. And you can turn it on only for the GPL directory,
and have it off on the rest of the disk...

without indexing bit the API function FindFirstFile() failed, returning NULL
pointer in XP. Seems GPL uses that function.

Does the standard install turn on indexing?

Then there are too many variables at work.  I did a clean install of XP Pro on
a system at work.  I tried loading GPL, even though I didn't expect it to run.
It did, no problems.  Didn't change a thing.  Last time I tried that(same
machine) it didn't work.
