When I did a clean install of XP Home on a new hard drive, indexing was turned on by default on all drives.
Haven't gotten around to installing GPL yet, I may attempt that today and report back . I currently have indexing off on all drivers.

If you don't turn on the Indexing service, there is no reason to remove the
"Allow indexing"-flag.
