GPL & Win XP

I just upgraded from Windows 2000 Pro to Windows XP Pro. Now GPL does not
work properly, especially the sound. I have tried running the fast gpl.exe
again, no joy.  Could the sound card drivers case this sort of thing? I have
a Soundblaster Live! 5.1. The website says they are working on drivers for
XP. Anyone experiencing the same thing? Any fix?

Well, you might want to consider getting a Turtlebeach Santa Cruz
soundcard. They already have Microsoft Certified XP drivers. It's a
nicer sounding card than the SB Live! too. They don't cost much.

Yep, gotta wonder why people do this, especially when it's been a known
issue with the XP betas for weeks.

Sheesh, people - at least do a bit of research on whether your software and
hardware is compatible before you upgrade to MS's "latest and
greatest"...................

Run Windows Update.  There are new Soundblaster drivers available.  If the
beta period was any indication, then there will be new Soundblaster drivers
almost every week.

I tried the drivers on the Windows Update, they don't work, however I found that if you turn hardware acceleration for the sound card down/off it will make the sound in GPL bearable.

The ones via Windows Update do not work correctly, i.e. no sound out of rear speakers for some, and for others it doesn't fix the errattic sound of GPL.  The ones from www.soundblaster.com do however seem to work for almost everyone.

Ok, let me try.  What about XP made it a "must have now" upgrade?  Is that a
fair question?

Is that a
That is the question we should all ask about EVERY upgrade.  Think about
what you are buying, be it an OS, a Video Card, a Cpu, and then identify how
you will BENEFIT from that purchase.  New and snazzy are not the terms you
should be thinking in.  Look at the software you have and the software you
may be planning to purchase in the future...what hardware will use that
software to the greatest benefit?

Eldred, yes, that is a fair question. It still has nothing to do with my
original post. It just pisses me off when people feel it's necessary to
editorialize and/or chastise, instead of either answering the question or
not. It's right up there with the "me too" replies.
I had no idea that there was a problem with the Creative drivers. I don't
keep up like I should I guess. Anyway, the new drivers are here and my
problem is solved. XP is very nice.
