Video card advise wanted

by Steve Ow » Thu, 24 Dec 1998 04:00:00

I'm getting ready to upgrade my system.  Current configuration is: PII
233 overclocked to 262, Matrox Millennium w/8M and Diamond Monster
Vooodoo I, 19" Compaq V90 monitor, W98 run at 1280x1024.  Games I play
are almost exclusively GPL and Nascar 2, so I think having 3dfx is
fairly important.  I do run a lot of W98 applications, so stability
for normal "work" is also important.

I'm thinking a good all around combination would be a Matrox G200 with
SGRAM AGP and Diamond Monster II PCI cards.  Thoughts?  That seems
like a good cost/performance combination.  What would you folks
suggest for a "cost is no object" combination?  What about a
super-cheap combination?

Thanks!

I bought a Quantum 3D Raven 2D/3D 16MB AGP card. I haven't had on problem on
anything I try to run with it.
Everything from NASCAR 2, F1RS, Viper, and even the older DOS games work
fine.
I added a small 486 fan to the chip and it stays pretty cool, cooler than
the Matrox I had in it originally.

Regards

Dave
