Install the Sidewinder 4.0 software (I'm assuming the wheel is USB).

USB or Gameport version ?

If it's the USB version, it's in the profile you set up for each game.

Trying to make this "more clear" for you...

If you have the Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel, Windows XP, and
***IF the wheel is USB version*** (not the gameport version) If you have the
installation CD, install the SoftWare...  WHen you attempt to install this
SoftWare, although the 1st warning box presents itself to warn you that it
is not Certified or written for your current version of Windows, do proceed
as it will work, while you are at it, at the next popup tell it yes to
install the extra "profiles"...  Yes you will most likely delete a lot of
them eventually, but there are some good ones for not too old of games..

Once installed you will have to make such adjustments via the Control panel
Applet "game Controllers".  You will click on properties, then see that the
Sidewinder SW kicks up its own screen.  BTW, this sidewinder SW can be set
to be in your system tray (or not depending on your choices at install)
saving you the clicks through the control panel...

If you have the gamport version of the wheel, I have NOT heard of any
work-around...   however, unless someone posts below that has tried this,
you might get lucky If you might try the adapter (gamport to USB) that are
forsale at Thomas Super Wheels, website.  ***Everyone*** I know of, just got
a different wheel, the USB version, and all was fine, Nobody has tried the
gameport to USB converter thing that I know of.  Good Luck.  I can almost
guarantee you that the one that RadioShack sells, wont work, FYI.

BTW, You dont have the CD?  Well, you can download the latest version of the
sidewinder controller SW, by finding the Sidewinder pages, on the Microsoft
site, unless they removed it by now...  They quit making the Sidewinder
products, & you've prolly read that...

Good luck

I do have the USB version.  However, I cannot find my cd.  I could not find
the 4.0 version of the software on microsofts site.  They did have the 3.2
version.

Do you know where I can get the 4.0 version?

Thanks for the help,

Keith

Another problem is that the file I downloaded from Microsoft does not seem
to work.  I get an error saying file not found once the install program
tries to start.

Thanks for any help,

Keith

I have the USB version, but I don't see any settings in N2003 or F12002 for
making them seperate axes.  I see that the games have the capabilies for
more than 2 axes, but I don't see where I can say that the throttle and
brake are seperate.

Actually, no you can't.  MS has never had version 4 available for download.

No worries though, go here and get this one:

"Sidewinder Software 4.0 (wrks w/ USB controllers) Driver"

I downloaded version 4.0 of the software, and still don't have the ability
to run split axis.  Anyone else have some ideas?

Tim, you positive about that one?  all three of my wheels game with 4.0
software disks but the sidewinder controller app or the driver SW said 3.02?
I will check again when I get home.  PS I am even talking about the one that
came with my Red wheels (version 2)

You cannot download the 4.0 version anywhere, but it's usually not hard to
get someone to send you a copy.

This has been an age-old issue with the 4.0 software.  Microsoft has really
handled the driver situation with Sidewinders in a pathetic manner.

3.02 cannot be installed on 2K or XP.  Don't try to force it!  It will not
work.

Ok, let's try this again :)

1.  You must install the version 4.0 Software that comes (only) with the USB
wheel's.
2.  You must create a profile for the game you want to play.
3.  Go through the options for that profile you created, and select the
"Separate" option.
4.  Make sure you have this profile enabled before you close the Game
Controllers control panel.
5.  Launch your game.

Your game will then see the separate axis's of your wheel.

Dammit!  Yet another site that 'requires' you to create a friggin account .

I think that is probably just the 3.1 driver update for 2K/XP, and not the
full profiler software, which is illegal to post.  If I am correct, it will
not help.

He must have the SideWinder 4.0 Profiler Software installed.
