ACT LABS - New Dual Axis Pedal Support!!!

Good news for owners of the Force RS, and for anyone who
was holding off on buying a Force RS because of the lack
of dual-axis pedal support.

I-Force has released new reference drivers that support
dual-axis pedals on the Force RS.  Download the drivers
from www.forcefeedback.com.  After installing, you'll
see a box that, when checked, enables dual-axis pedals.

Now, if we can just get the I-Force virtual spring
supported in GPL...

I talked to some guy at actlab some while ago.
He said that the lack of dual axis pedal support, is also a hardware
problem.
Not only a software problem. This information I got from actlab.

Who are you going to believe - him or me? :)

Here is a link directly to the driver download page.  You
may have to register with them before you can download:

I've also alerted ACT Labs to these new drivers, and
they will probably post them on the ACT Labs web site
soon.

ACT LABS - New Dual Axis Pedal Support!!!

Hello Pat

Too late !

I just returned my new Force RS to my dealer, and changed it for a Microsoft
FF wheel, with default spring working under GPL, and dual axis pedals. I did
this this afternoon, and i am already 2 secs/lap faster than with the Force
RS, mostly due to the great Microsoft pedals. Force RS pedals are ***! Too
bad, because the wheel itself is good.

Damn, these guys at immersion and actlabs should also make working drivers
before selling their hardware (Dual axis and default spring is a must). And
also they should make other pedals ! The one they make are a handicap for
the driver. It's driving with moon boots !

I'll show you this in an online race one of these days :-)

regards

Thierry Cailleteau.

PS: and anyway, thanx for the post.

Thanks for the tip Pat. I installed the new drivers, but where exactly
is the box, you mentioned? Im in control panel, game controllers, gain
settings etc.

thanks

For you disbelivers out there this is a paste from the mail a got from
actlab. I go this mail under a month ago.
I should mention that I do not own a actlab wheel myself nor have I tried
it, but
this is what Stuart Galloway at actlab mailed me.

""  The "heel braking issue" will be addressed in future versions of the
driver but having looked into the issue more closely there will also have to
be a hardware change. You see, the travel from the gas and brake is
different and will require a mold change. To let you know at the present I
drive using the pedals like a go-cart and it works for well for me without
having a separate mode enabled.  ""

The wheel doesn't have a spring type center like the MS wheel?
After trying the MS wheel, I don't think I would consider a FF wheel
unless it had the spring centering. Kind of reminds me of that CH
wheel, it didn't center either (but it wasn't FF). Hmmm self centering
seem pretty important to me. I believe real cars do it, at least my
personal car does :-)

The wheel does have self centering force - it works in other non-FF games,
but not in GPL.  This is major reason I returned it (along with the high
friction and single combined axis pedals).  I read somewhere on the
www.force-1.com forum that this was also a problem in some other
Immersion-based wheel (some obscure one that I can't remember).

In the joystick control panel, with the I-force steering wheel driver
as device #1, click on properties.  Under the first tab there should be
a box for split axis pedals (that's from memory, but should be right).

I'm not sure Stu is talking about split-axis pedals here.  They wouldn't
have to change a mold for that anyway, it's an electronics and software
issue.  I think he is talking about changing the physical dimensions or
location of the pedal, and maybe he misunderstood the original question.

At any rate, I've talked with ACT Labs on the phone, and gotten email
from them confirming that they have the I-force drivers and that the
drivers work with the Force RS.  They are in the process of having the
dual-axis support added to the ACT Labs version of the drivers.

FYI, the RS gas and brake pedals each have their own potentiometer,
and each potentiometer is wired separately.  The signals are either
split or combined in the cartridge.  I would hope that new drivers
for the regular RS will be released with dual support soon.

ACT LABS - New Dual Axis Pedal Support!!!

Two days later...

The MSFF is the moste accurate driving wheel i've ever seen (I have had a
T2, a GP1, and a Force RS during a few days :).

This MSFF is the most accurate ! Great Wheel, giant pedals !!!

Unfortunately, in FF enabled games, the FF effects of the MSFF are poor
compared to the Force RS. The force RS is a very good tool too, except its
F***ing pedals.
