GPL online question

I finally got to play GPL online for the first time online last night.
However, I was getting pretty poor frame rates (jittering between 25 and
30).  Is the problem with this likely to be at my end or at the host
end?  It certainly made driving even harder.

Is Game Spy Boy the best place to go to look for races?  I found it
extremely frustrating because people tended to be hosting the more
obscure circuits or F3 races (I've never really tried F3/F2 - I'd sooner
learn all the circuits in GP cars first).

Oh - and a modem "lack of recommendation" for you.  Do not, on any
account, buy the Modulartech USB modem.  It's terrible.  The high ping
rates I'd been getting for two weeks were all a result of that modem.
Basically it adds at least 250ms onto any ping.  Dreadful.

Could be either computer.. host or client.  The first thing I would do
is to download a core.ini file and select that one in the "client join"
window.  Second, I'd try all the different settings in the same window
on the same client so that your connection is matched well enough with
the host.

F1 races contain too many first lap heroes.  Mostly because these
drivers don't understand what racing is.  As well as a few other
variables.  F2 there are still the same problems, but far fewer because
these drivers have a longer reaction time allowed.  Plus, The racing is
much closer between the first place driver and the last place driver.
F3, There are even fewer first lap heroes.  Plus the qualifying times
between the first place drivers and the last place drivers are almost
always within 2 seconds.  Then, during the race, the competition is
right there nose to tail with you.  Bassically,  F3 cars have more fun!

Obscure circuits!?! 99% of all VROC races are Monza/Glen.

Guess I maybe just picked an odd night.  Having looked just now most
of them were monza/glen and those that weren't were silverstone.  (Must
learn silverstone but it's soooo boring on your own).

...and when I set up races at Spa or Monace, I *might* get two entrants... :-(

I always have a good ping to your server, but as you mentioned, the
races aren't crowded....maybe you can experiment with this suggestion:
Use the Grand Prix damage setting, with the novice/short amount of
laps.....

Ok, I'll plead ignorance.  Is that on the VROC host screen?  I didn't see it.
I'll try it on one of my servers - if I can find the way to set them
independently...
I may have a system tomorrow that I can run 24/7 :-)
