VROC with Cable Modem

I just got a cable modem and I am just now also feeling good enough to
join in one the online races, have done two and have finished last and
second to last now . . . But I was wondering if I need to do any
changes to anything with the setting for the cable modem? Anything
special for the Core.ini? I have an IP address so I am not using DHCP
and the cable modems speed changes from good to bad wihtout warining.
I have not noticed it being any worst than racing over the internet
against my brother-in-law, over v.90s. Also have not notice any real
improvement in the quality of the online race experience, but I doubt
I would. Now if I could just race a little faster, 1:34s at Monza just
is not going to win anything! Need to work on starts also, any
suggestions on starts?

You must add this line to the core.ini, so GPL can find the alternate IP:

alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 1            ; Find IP addresses another way

I use to have cable modem using DHCP, check with your customer service, if
you should be using DHCP or not.

Bye Coco

I have a cable modem and the connection to my router can be poor sometimes.
do a 'tracert ftp.microsoft.com' (or pick some other server) to find your
closest node.  Then 'ping -t ' to it's IP and see how good your first hop
is.  The cable company has gradually made this better by upgrading lines in
the street and restringing part of the wiring in my house.
