Best modem for VROC?

by Paul Jone » Sun, 31 Jan 1999 04:00:00

My 56Kbs modem has given up the ghost. I am going to buy a new modem
tommorrow. It's been said that USB modems are much better for VROC
races. Is this true and why? I can't really understand this since the
data rate from an analog modem isn't really any great shakes and
wouldn't put an ISA bus to the test.
What modem should I buy?
Cheers,
Paul

Enquire about ISDN and other options like cable - if available, it may not
be as expensive as you'd think...

Actually, I am getting ISDN but British Telecom can't do that until mid-March
so this is a stop gap because I can't possibly be without VROC until then.
Actually I've just bought a serial port V90 modem with a serial to USB
connection device (ie it goes into the USB port on my PC) which should give me
the advantages of USB and still sllow me to plug it into my older non-USB
computers later.
Cheers,
Paul
