GPL & VROC w/Cable Modem

Ok, here's the deal.

I was using my 56K v.90 modem and using GSB to play GPL thru VROC.  No problem.
 Could select a race... then within GPL select "multiplayer" then at the next
screen select the Hosting IP address...then click on the GREEN button to get
into the track screens.

I have since, thankfully, upgraded to a cable modem.  I updated the GSB to the
most recent so I get the chat rooms with everyone there... and I get the
listing of the available races.  When I select a race I get the inital GPL
screen, as usual.  I select "multiplayer" and I get the next screen with the IP
Address of the host.

The "connect via" box has my 56K modem with drop down choice of COM1 COM2 and
COM3.  I am not given the GREEN BUTTON to move on to the track screens.

What am I missing now that I have a cable modem as my connection to the
internet?

Thanks to anyone that can help.

This is a regular question which is answered in the readme.txt file. Zubcut
posted this reply recently:

You need to have a file called core.ini in your gpl directory with the
following lines:

net_mdm_client_send_every = 2            ; Client packet freq on dialup
net_mdm_client_send_size = 84            ; Client packet size on dialup
net_mdm_server_send_every = 3            ; Server packet freq on dialup
net_mdm_server_send_size = 84            ; Server packet size on dialup
alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 1

The last line is the one that will have it search for your cable modem's
address. At least this worked for me. Without this line my only choices to
connect were serial port lines. With the line "alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 1"
added to core.ini, magically the cable modem address appeared as a choice.
Cable rules for GPL. Get more info about core.ini files on Allison Hines
internet site.

Thank you ... I'll apply changes today.

I looked for txt files and readme's but couldn't find any.

Thanks,

Hi,  anyone reading this post should be aware that the 1st line in the
Core.ini file that Zubcut posted, is not the standard VROC default
setting..
It should be: 3 84 3 84    not:    2 84 3 84.
Just change the 1st line parameter to 3 and all will be well..
Cheers,
Ron

Andrew,

Ron's right, the first line of the core.ini should read:
 "net_mdm_client_send_every = 3                          ; Client packet
freq on dialup"

The problem about finding the cable modem ip will be fixed by adding the
line: "alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 1" to the core.ini file. (Don't use
quotes)
