F1 2001 LWFF delayed action steering

I got this game, just splashed out on an Audigy to make it work at all, but
I find that the steering action is delayed by about 0.5s. This of course
makes it ease to spin off a straight piece of track!
System: Celeron 450A, Geforce 3 MX, Audigy, LWFF (serial connection).
I wondered about latency caused by the serial connection of the wheel,
though this has never been a problem in SCGT, CMR2, RC2000 or GP2!!

Any ideas?

The last person I had say they had a delay actually had a deadzone
problem.

I assume you have the F1 2001 patch:

http://f12001.phosworks.se/dynpage.asp?page_id=769

and read the advanced doc.

and have used the dxtweak thing from:

http://www.wingmanteam.com/latest_software/gadgets.htm

to remove the deadzone in dx.

Had this problem - for some reason the fact that i had customised my mouse
pointer caused the delay - I reset my mouse pointer to original and the
problem disappeared. It also affected Half Life - movement was like a drunk
with a 1 second delay. Don't ask me why the pointer messed everything up -
it just did!

It was definitely a delay, if I turned the wheel then held steady, about
0.5s later the game did the same thing. Anyway I patched it and the problem
has gone away. I probably need to re-introduce some sort of deadzone, as the
Force Feedback starts oscillating down the fast straights!
