F! 2002 demo physics rate and controller remark

Hi,

Anyone but me experiencing a slight FF oscilation going down the straights
with the "fast" physics update rate turned on? -Logitech MOMO, latest
drivers, Overall setting 100% (effects settings 0%) in properties and -100%
FF set in F1 2k2, "FF Effects" setting has no influence on the phenomenon.
Perhaps an option to set FF latency wouldn't go amiss in the release
version?

On a semi-related note. I can't get the clutch to work when either mapped to
keyboard or to a button on my wheel, regardless of whether clutch assistance
is turned on or off (turns itself back on every time I launch the demo, but
remains "off" for the current session). I should be albe to cut drive to the
rear wheels by putting the clutch in when spinning or, at a standstill, be
able to rev the engine with the car in gear and the clutch depressed,
right? -Well neither happens regardless of settings used in this area.
Launch control works, so the ability for the clutch to function is there...
it just doesn't.

I have that same problem.  I haven't fooled around with it in the demo
yet, but in F1 2001 I was able to get rid of it with the following
changes to the player file:

FFB_Device_Type=2
FFB_Effects_Level=5
FFB_Gain=(0.750000)
FFB_Steer_Vibe_Freq_Multiplier=(0.000000)
FFB_Steer_Force_Exponent=(1.000000)
FFB_Throttle_Vibe_Freq_Multiplier=(0.000000)
FFB_Brake_Vibe_Freq_Multiplier=(0.000000)

The first two lines have to be changed in order for it to recognize your
custom settings.  Turning down gain reduces the magnitude of the
oscillation.  Setting the various vibration frequencies to zero is
supposed to turn that effect off.  Setting the steering exponent to one
linearizes the response, so that small forces are less likely to set off
oscillations (less than one magnifies the small forces and reduces large
ones).  These settings felt very comfortable to me in F1 2001, and it
looks like they should work with the demo also.

I have found I get less oscillation in 2002 - BUT - I have found the
setup has a profound effect on the oscillation - I haven't tracked down
exactly what it is but different setups in the same car in F1-2001 would
give different effects. (I do setups by downloading :-)

I prefer to use the manual clutch also. It seems if you use any of the
autogearshift options (up only, down only or both) the clutch becomes
automatic no matter how you set it. (and of course traction controll will
come into play here - I like the way f1-2k2 has a traction control
override button).

So if you want a manual clutch you have to give up on any of the auto
gearshift options. I run with manual gears, no traction control and
manual clutch and can rev the thing and dump the clutch to get
satisfying clouds of smoke (or more realistically a quick 180 to point
back in the right direction).

Another interesting thing I found with the clutch settings is if you are
in the controller assignement thing and you set the clutch to a button -
when you press and release the button the little display on the left shows
the clutch being let out gradually - quickly but gradually. It is not an
ON/Off switch. I do like that new display - it is great for diagnosing
various controller setup things.

Thanks for the info... I am using  "medium" traction control, I'll turn it
off and see what gives.
