But it runs at 1 to 2 FPS no matter what, tried it at all resolutions,
software, D3d, with wheel,FF on and off, keyboard. Turned off all background
progs.
Machine is athlon 2000, geforce 2 GTS, Abit AT7 on board sound, XP Pro with
SP1.
Any ideas?

Remove 'OhmygodImaDJ' and swap 0's for o's if replying.
Your symptoms suggest you haven't applied the CPU fix, so try it again.
Not that for a fresh install, you need to apply some patches in a certain
order. Basically if you apply the 1.2 patch, then CPU fix, then the more
sounds patch it should work. Don't apply the Disco fix or no-CD fix after
the CPU fix, since the CPU fix includes these anyway.

Applying the CPU patch only seems to make matters worse, often crashing to
desktop or locking up completely?

are you running in software mode? Make sure the 3d rasterizer is d3d.
(also make sure you apply the d3d patch BEFORE attempting to run in d3d )

d3d patch in and working, tho badly, game does the same thing in software mode.
Its a though something is bogging the PC down. But I shut all other progs and a
few unnecessary services down.
All other games work fine
