As I understand it, the problem is that ZA wants to pop up and ask you if
it's OK for GPL to access the Internet. But that little popup hangs the
system because GPL can't switch video modes. The solution is supposed to be
to run GPL in software mode, let ZA get all the answers it wants, then
switch back to hardware mode. I've never tried this - the FPS hit that ZA
has on Unreal Tournament indicates to me it would get in GPL's way too, and
I can't afford to give up any more CPU cycles. So I just remember to always
shut down ZA before joining a VROC race.
It works in N4 because N4 came out AFTER ZoneAlarm, so Papy probably wrote
their network code to deal with this type of problem.
I've heard other software firewalls don't have this problem with GPL/VROC
but I have no personal experience.
