1.2 patch. There seems to be a bit of confusion about support for this
version on VROC and GPL Spy Boy, and compatibility with earlier versions
of GPL.
Here's the scoop:
Clients must be running the same version of GPL as the server to join a
race. GPL 1.1 will not connect with GPL 1.2, and vice versa.
VROC supports GPL 1.2 through the VROC applet. Using a recent version
of Netscape or MS Internet Explorer, simply go to http://www.racesimcentral.net/
do the following:
1. Click on the GPL 1.1 race room on the menu at your left.
2. Enter the path to your GPL folder in the appropriate box.
3. Uncheck the Enable Old Synch Method box.
4. Click on the MOTD button to see a list of races.
5. Join a race by double-clicking on it.
Note that only the fields with blue labels are relevant to joining.
Unless you are hosting, you can ignore the other fields on the race room
page.
Extensive details are available on the VROC New User and Help pages. A
preliminary version of the GPL 1.2 FAQ is available through the VROC
Help page.
We are working on a version of the VROC applet which will distinguish
between 1.1 and 1.2, to make it easier for you to find races hosted with
a version of GPL which is compatible with the version you are using.
We hope that a version of GPL Spy Boy which has support for GPL 1.2 will
be available soon.
Once GPL 1.2 is available in all languages, we will encourage everyone
to switch to it. Extensive testing has shown that GPL 1.2 is greatly
superior to earlier versions of GPL in many ways, particularly for
online racing.
Apologies for any confusion or inconvenience. The release of GPL 1.2 at
this time was something of a surprise for the VROC staff.
