What lap times are you guys getting in F1C Hungaroring?  I just spent over
200 laps there (wasted a perfectly good Friday night!)  and could not for
the life of me get below 1:18.  And the 1:18 was with the cheater aids on,
with more normal settings (low TC and clutch) the high 1:19's was the best I
could do.  The AI are running in the 1:16 to 1:18 range.  I watched them,
wrote down their cornering speeds (pause key is handy for this), and
compared it to my telemetry.  I couldn't even come close without aids.  In
particular the car dies in the low speed corners but if I try and add
throttle I spin.  If I come in as fast as the AI the car pushes, if I add
lock the speed drops like a rock, if I add throttle it spins, and if I
loosen up the car I can't even get off the brakes without spinning.  This is
the 2002 McLaren BTW, if that makes any difference.  Fiddled around with
gears, camber, toe, etc. but could not find a way (without aids) to get
through the hairpins at anywhere near the speeds the AI were doing.  Weird
thing is I was okay with the low speed sections at Silverstone, Nurburgring,
and Hockenheim, but here I just can't get it.  Any tips for driving, setup,
etc. would be welcomed, because I just feel like I must be way off the pace
here.

I'm doing 1:16.5 here, 2002 Ferrari(low TC only). I can't help with
your speed much, maybe send me a lap and I'll compare? Forget the AI,
they do the same laptimes I do right now, but the rythm they have is
nothing like what my car can do. If I run 50 metres behind them I run
in the back of them at some point on the track and on other parts they
just rocket off in the distance. The AI is totally track dependent(it
was much much worse in F1 2002), so their speed can vary wildly from
track to track. There were some excellent AI-updates for F1 2002,
though, don't remember the name of who made them, but they were really
truly great. Hopefully he'll make some for F1C aswell.

Well I just looked through my replays and I couldn't really find one that I
would feel comfortable sending.  I have a very sloppy 1:19 lap in a Williams
which isn't at all representative of the way I am trying to drive the track
but is nevertheless somehow the fastest one I got in that car.  And I have a
1:19 in the McLaren that was done with aids on and is therefore not really a
good one to look at either.  I have a telemetry file for a 1:18 aided lap
but no replay to go with it.  All of my clean, non-aided laps were above
1:20, and I don't have any replays for them.  What would really be useful to
me, if you wouldn't mind, would be if you could email me both a replay and a
telemetry file from one of your laps.  Then I could at least get a look at
the right line (from your replay) and figure out where I'm slow (from your
telemetry).

My best is a 1:15.9, but I'm usually in the low to mid 16's (2002 Ferrari
with low TC)
There's another half a second to be gained, if I could just put all the
sectors together ;)

As ever it will be 40% set up and 60% your ability.

A Team Redline offering normally sorts the setup side out

You doing 20 laps correctly will be better than 200 laps incorrectly.

Get a replay from an alien,Huttu,Dom Rich Morgan et al.

I'm doing low 17s with no aids in the Jag. I do have a replay and telemetry
file I'll email to you - only aid on was invincible as I was learning the
track at that time ;)

Don't be afraid to bin it if its no good - this is only my second modern F1
track since GP2. I'm just trying to return the favour someone did for me at
Hockenheim.

Got your email and it's very helpful.  The puzzling thing now is that I am
using the same line you are but somehow losing a lot more speed in nearly
all of the corners.  But at least now I have a realistic lap to target.
Thanks.

Thank's for the info. After I had asked I did a Find in OE and came up with
alot of posts on it. I'm going to Electronics Boutique now and pick it up. I
have a instore credit I can use.

Eldred my dear fellow...

I was merely pertaining to the need of correct line and braking points.

Added to a very good setup you feel you can then put the laps in and get to
your own peak.

This before you ask is in comparison to Huttu's peak which is bigger than
Everest.

That's easy, if you come back with all 4 tires and all the wings and
haven't killed or maimed any of the virtual spectaors/track marshalls, then
you have correctly completed a lap.   hmmm would 3 outta 4 count as
correct?

Okay I still need some help.  I studied the stuff that you and Neil sent me
(thanks again guys) and it definitely helped, I can now run a clean 1:19
without aids.  Still not very good, but an improvement over yesterday.
Primary place I am losing time is turn 4.  I have no idea how you guys are
getting through turn 4 so fast.  You both are going through there at about
200 kph, I can't get within 15 kph of that speed without going wide.  I have
tried quite a few things with setup but I don't really think that's it,
there is something in your line or car control or something that I am not
getting.  Any hints?

All I can really say is how the turn feels to me:

Coming up the hill I'm on the far left and then I cut across so that just
before the turn I'm on the far right and parallel with the kerb. I then give
a sharp dab of the brakes and clatter down 3 gears almost at once. I aim to
keep just the two outside wheels on the tarmac. At the apex, revs are still
high and I feed more throttle quickly but smoothly. The amount I feed in
depends on how well I set up the turn - too wide and I feed less in and
vice-versa. The aim id to be on full acceleration over the outside rumble
strip without touching the grass. Check your setup allows a really sharp
turn in with a very quick chassis set to get the power back on.

Probably didn't help much but in truth I think this is one of the more
'instinctive' turns on the track.
