Logitech Wingman FF Wheel for $50?!?!?!?

by Rigs » Mon, 16 Aug 1999 04:00:00

I just jumped onto www.provantage.com and looked up the Formula Force
and it gives two choices - one for $50 (!) and the other for $102. Which
should I get? Is there a differnece? I want to make sure it has F1RS
bundled too. (For a friend) Also, should I go for the Logitech or the
ACT Labs Force RS? They seem about the same, anything I should consider?
I've looked everywhere for the RS, but no one seems to sell it, anyone
know where to buy one at a reasonable price? Sorry, lots of questions -
no clue...

Logitech Wingman FF Wheel for $50?!?!?!?

by hoerz.. » Tue, 24 Aug 1999 04:00:00

Is there anyone out there who could give me some helpful feedback,
PLEASE!

I am trying to decide whether to stick with my Force RS or buy a
Wingman Force. The Force RS is quite nice but not as smooth as the
Logitech. Unfortunately I live in the land of LIMITED possibilities and
I have been unable to locate a place where I could try the Logitech
wheel.

Has anybody tried BOTH wheels? Which is the better wheel? How strong is
the FF on the Logitech wheel when compared to the Force RS. Are the
Logitech pedals usable or do they need new springs.

TIA

Stefan

On Mon, 23 Aug 1999 04:27:08 GMT,

The FF on the ACTLABS is definitely stronger than the LOGITECH.
It will almost break your arms if you set it to the highest setting
in control panel..  ;)

Have you tried both? What's better on the Logitech? Does the Logitech
have enough force and which one would you get (or keep)???

Thanks

I've tried both and prefer the Logitech.  I was not able to get adjusted
to the notchiness of the Act Labs, and I hated their paddle shifters.
The shifters are one long shaft, so when you pull one the other moves
away from you.  Imagine a pencil which pivots in the middle, or a
see-saw, or a fulcrum, etc...

The Logitech is smooth, pedals are fine once the springs are replaced
with stronger springs, paddle shifters are excellenet, and the FF is
great once you upgrade to the latest drivers.

Agree with you about the notchiness and the shifter paddles.  I use the
wheel buttons to shift and the paddles to look left/right, works much better
that way.  To be honest though, I've put away the Force and just use the
non-force RS with my trusty old T2 pedals.  The ACT pedals are okay in most
games once you do some tweaking and lubing to get rid of the stickiness, but
they just don't cut it for GPL, the throw is much too short.  Too bad,
they're really solid and stick to the floor like glue.

I am getting ready to purchase the Logitech myself, and have a silly newbie
question....
Where did you get the springs to replace the "stock" ones?
Thanks in advance,
Kinny

Logitech Wingman FF Wheel for $50?!?!?!?

by Andrew » Fri, 27 Aug 1999 04:00:00

Any hardware store should carry them.  Couldn't find any at Home Depot, but my
local 50,000 items jammed in 100 square feet of floor space hardware store
did.  Look in the Screws/Bolts/Nails aisles.  They're usually stored in a pull
out bins or metal toolchests with pull out doors.

I brought my springs with me to the store and picked out a couple that offered
a bit more resistance.  Things to think about.... (1) Brake pedal should have
more resistance than the gas (2) Too much resistance == pain in the legs (3)
Make sure the hardware store doesn't think you're stealing the springs you
brough with you!

Good luck.  They're not hard to find, honest.

Logitech Wingman FF Wheel for $50?!?!?!?

by hoerz.. » Sat, 28 Aug 1999 04:00:00

I have now bought a Logitech wheel (I already own an Actlabs wheel,
both ff) and must say, that I like the Logitech better than the
actlabs. FF and steering in general is more precise and the force is
definately strong enough. In fact, it is not much weaker than the
actlabs (with the wingman 3.20 drivers at least). The shifter paddles
are good but I'm a ***driver (on PC games) so I need automatic cars
anyway ;-)

The pedals are not half as good as the actlab ones but I imagine they
can be fixed with stronger springs (my job for the weekend....). I also
found this interesting page on how to modify your Logitech wheel with
ball bearings (maybe sometime in the future as it looks quite
difficult).

Considering that the Logitech was quite a bit more (remember I live in
consumers hell.....that is New Zealand) I'd have to say they're about
equal. If they were the same price, I'd rather get the Logitech because
ff is what I was after. I can alsways try to get some of those
thrustmaster pedals everyone goes on about.......

Anyway, thanks for you info...

Logitech Wingman FF Wheel for $50?!?!?!?

by andr.. » Wed, 08 Sep 1999 04:00:00

After installing the new driver for Force RS (separate pedals support,
downloadable from www.actlab.com) I'm unable to set up controller
in "Need
for Speed High Stakes". The game just freezes when I go to
options/controllers until I disconnect power supply for the wheel. The
old
driver works fine.
Any ideas?
Did anybody use Act Labs Force RS with new driver in NFSHS?
