NE1 recommends Logitech Wingman Formula (Non FF)?

Hi all

First of all, let me apologise if this is not the correct place to ask this,
or if it has been asked before.

I'm considering getting my first steering wheel. Though Force Feedback would
be great, I don't want to spend much on it, as I'm not a *** gamer and
only play racing games sometimes. I've seen really flimsy wheels out there,
made of crappy plastic, giving the impression to break down in less than a
lap. But lately I've heard of the new Logitech wheels, and would like to
know your opinion about it.

As I still play GP2 on my P166, it's important that the wheel works right in
both W95 & DOS, and I think the Force Feedback version doesn't (does it?).

So, I'd like to hear your opinions about this wheel, pros and cons, or point
me to where I can get this information. Even if it's not the best option
available, I presume it would always be better than a normal joystick,
right?

Thanks in advance. Feel free to e-mail me privately

I have one (non-FF) and like it a lot.  For my review and information on some
easy mods to make it better, see:

http://nh.ultranet.com/%7Ealison/gpl/controls-readers.htm.

As for GP2, it works fine if you run the program under Windows in a DOS box,
but the drivers will not work in pure DOS.  Additionally, you have to use
combined-axis pedals in GP2, but if you've been using a joystick, that won't
pose any problem.  No one can say how they'll hold up long-term, since they
haven't been out that long, but I've had mine for 5 months and it's doing fine.
Be sure to visit http://wingmanteam.com for the latest drivers, version 3.20.

Actually, Steve, I have to add something here. Even though the drivers
don't work in pure DOS, the wheel does. It has an analog mode where it
looks to the system exactly like an analog device. You don't need any
drivers at all. It will work with any game, even Nascar2. (If you launch
Nascar2 from Windows, make sure to *remove* the wheel from Game
Controllers. This way, it will be set to analog mode, and Nascar will
pick it up).

Just so no-one gets too e***d here: This is valid *ONLY* for WingMan
Formula (non-FF)!

WingMan Formula *Force* doesn't work in plain DOS.

Well;  I guess you do learn something new every day!  Thanks for the
correction, Tom, and also for the work on the new drivers.  Not having to worry
about that pesky centering glitch anymore sure is nice.  And those new
"Sproing!" button sounds in the calibration menu are excellent!

Cheers,

Steve
