I do not remember seeing any comments on this wheel. Does anyone here
have one, and how is it with F1RS? A couple of Web sites have it for
about $110 but it is backordered. Does the USB connection work well, and
have you compared it to the serial port? How is the cable drive versus
the direct gears used by some of the other wheels? I have been reading
the online reviews but would appreciate some comments from actual paying
customers.

Thanks,
Keith.

I was at Comdex on Friday, and got to try out the Formula Force at
Trident's booth. They only had the wheel (no pedals), running Blade2
(arcade racer) on cool widescreen flat panel displays. The wheel felt
really nice, didn't have the same sort of mechanical feel that the MS &
Saitek wheels had. It was padded vinyl, very comfy. The game didn't seem
to use FF, so I don't know how that works.

Creative Labs had one with pedals set up with a Banshee rig running GPL,
but the guy playing it (not very well and in chase view) was taking
forever, and I was there on business :o( I didn't get a good look at the
pedals, but the brake looked like it was missing the top (wouldn't be
surprising after 5 days of abuse). Funny thing is, GPL wasn't showing
off the Banshee at its best - it needed to be restarted, because there
were some bad artefacts in the graphics - mainly the driver's head was
scrambled. The marketing guy said he didn't know anything about the game
- "they just gave it to us to run".

Oops. I mean Motorhead. Blade2 (or something) is Trident's new graphics
chip. Very nice looking, if I may say.

Motorhead has great force feedback effects.  It sounds like
Trident people were clueless about setting up the sims.

They weren't the only ones. Creative Labs had GPL running to show off
its Banshee board. They had it going in chase view, and there were all
sorts of image problems. I had to tell them how to use shift-R, and the
sales guy admitted he didn't know anything about the game. I was trying
to figure out why he was at the Banshee station when someone asked how
it compared with the TNT board, and the guy said the 2d on the Banshee
was a dog compared to the TNT, and that Glide compatibility was about
the only reason to get a Banshee-based board. Talk about underselling a
product.
