Logitech Wingman FF Wheel

Logitech Wingman FF Wheel

I've been thinking of getting this wheel since it's relatively inexpensive
and looks well designed.  I remember with the first version of the Wingman
FF Wheel, the wheel itself got good reviews, but the pedals where criticized
by reviewers, I think they have addressed this in the second version, no?

I saw it on display at a local computer super centre, it wasn't plugged in,
just sitting there.  It looks ok, but when I moved the wheel it really felt
mechanical.  I could feel and hear gears moving, it had a lot of resistance
and made a lot of noise... does any one here with experience with the wheel
recommend it?

Thanks.

Yes they did on the pedals....

A bit more travel and better wider pedals

What happens is that when its plugged in the wheel becomes stiffer to turn
and the mechanical feel u get disappears.

When u get it tuned to ur liking( GPL, N4 etc.....)  it then behaves more
like a steering wheel.

They decided it was time for a change, so now the pedals are good and
the wheel sucks. They wanted a less expensive version, so they cheaped
out on the wheel covering, and replaced the nice cable drive with
gears.

I have the original Wingman FF now. When it craps out, I'm probably
going to get an Act Labs or Sidewinder FF wheel. I don't like either
as much as the original Wingman, but I like both better than the new
one.

The FF effects are pretty tame, but overall it has quite a nice feel. I've
only ever had a non FF Microsoft SW wheel to compare it too, but I like the
Logitech much better.

I'm not sure if what appears to be the weak FF effects is true of all FF
wheels of whether this one is particulariy weak. Overall, 7/10 from me.

Tim,
If you don't smoke the cirquit board, the LWFF could last forever.
There is 3rd party replacement for all wear parts available.

Logi forever :-)

BTW: Alain, do you have access to ebay? If so you can try to locate a 2nd hand
one. Should be alot cheaper than a new LW GP
