Viper Racing - Logitech Wingman FF Wheel Questions

by Bill Mas » Mon, 17 May 1999 04:00:00

Hi,

Some questions for anyone using this wheel in Viper Racing:

1).  Unless I set the wheel to non-linear, I get a pronounced side-to-side
"lurch" of the wheel when on a straight stretch of track, and there seems to
be a "dead zone" between the extremes of this motion, making the car
unstable at speed.  BTW, this does NOT happen at all in other sims, i.e.,
SportsCar GT, F1RS, MGPRS2, etc.

If I turn down the Overall Effects Strength in Windows Control Panel
settings to considerably less than 100%, the "lurch" diminishes, but, alas,
so does the strength of ALL effects......sigh.

2)  Speaking of linear vs non-linear, with the wheel having only a 180
degree range of travel, does this make the wheel linear or non-linear?
What do most of you set this up as?

3)  What do most of you set the Dead spot and Range settings to for brake,
gas, and steering?

Thanks ,

Bill

I'm not using the Logitech Wheel, but my Saitek too acted the same way.
So I use non-linear steering and it works great for me.

BTW, I guess, you already installed the 1.1 Patch, which increases
Logitech-FF...

As mentioned above, I use non-linear steering and my wheel has a range of
270 degrees.

Dead spot brake and gas: 0; steering 5 out of 1024
Range settings as sensitive as possible, with ABS enabled, I know, that
ain't cool, there's no ABS in race vipers, but in the game, even turned to
high, it is possible to slide through corners.

Hi, Zolli,

Sure sounds like something particular to Viper, doesn't it?

Yes

By "sensitive as possible", I take it you mean the red thermometer bars
filled all the way?

Bill

brake and throttle yes, with steering 3 dots less, as I saw now...
