MS ForceFeed should I get it?

Here in Brazil the only easily available FF wheel is the one from
Microsoft. If I get it will I reasonably enjoy F1 2002 and GPL? Or is
it a better idea to try to get a better wheel?

Thanks,

Helio

I'd say get it - I've had mine for 3 years now and no problems. It uses an
optical sensor rather than pots, so doesnt go out of calibration. Also
pedals have better travel than most others - so no real weaknesses. Works
fine in GPL and F1 2002.
Toms Hardware did a review of wheels and the MSFF wheel rated highly.

The MSFFW is a great wheel.  IMHO, it is the best of the Consumer level
wheels on the market.

It is extremely durable.  Mine is 2 years old, has been used heavily, and it
shows no signs of wear whatsoever.

The Force Feedback is powerful enough, and the wheel attachment system is as
easy as it gets.

The pedals are, IMHO, the best of the Consumer Class wheels.  They are very
comfortable.

If there is a downside, it is the SideWider Profiler software.  It hasn't
been updated in a long time.

It works, but there are definitely better software designs out there.

MAKE SURE IT IS A USB VERSION, NOT A GAMEPORT VERSION!  I cannot stress
enough the importance of this.

When you install the SideWinder 4.0 software, it will say it isn't
compatible with Win2K or XP.  Disregard the notice and install it anyway.
It works fine.

Oddly, Microsoft WHQL certified this software in it's current condition,
even with the above false warning intact.  I guess when you write the rules
and own the certification system, you can break the rules no one else is
supposed to :)

Because Microsoft no longer supports it, the SideWinder software will not
work, and it will never, ever be upgraded.

Ever.

It is a dead end.

The controller industry moved to producing USB devices more than three years
ago, hence Windows XP only supports game port devices with "basic" drivers.
The problem isn't XP, it is the industry itself - with rare exceptions -
doesn't support game port devices any more.  They want us  to buy the newer
USB controllers.

The product has been EOL since about 2.5 years ago :)

Those who already own them have a right to ***.  Those considering buying
one new, well, can't :)

Just get the USB Eldred :)

Shouldn't you be screaming and running *** and drunk through the streets
now?:-)     (Brazil 2-0 Germany) Congrats on a great Cup win.

...and now back to our topic...

The MSFF wheel has been trouble free for almost 3 years for me. Just now
starting to think about upgrading. I have the gameport version and have had
nothing but great experiences with it. I learned to drive the ring with it
and will always say good things about it.
