GP4 Black menu screen

Today I finally got GP4 and I was very curious if all the critisism was
justified.
I installed the game and started it; the intro sequence starts, no problems
here.
But when it gets to the menu, the screen goes black. I can see and use the
mouse pointer. I can actually click on some option I am pointing at. But
apart from the mouse pointer I can't see a thing!Music seems to be playing
correctly.
Does anyone know a cure for this problem?

This is my system:
P3 1ghz Creative Geforce 2 Ti 64mb
256mb RAM Direct x 8.1 WinME
Sidewinder FF Wheel

I have downloaded the latest drivers from the nvidia site.

Right click on the windows background and select properties, then settings,
then the advanced tab, then the  geforce menu and finally the additional
properties.

Make sure that the box is checked which says - allow applications to control
antialiasing mode.

I hope this helps you as it is ***y frustrating having a game and not
playing it.

sigh.... Ken, I really appreciate your help but... it didn't work.
I've tried numerous things driverwise, but nothing seems to cure the
problem.
I gues I'll have to contact the Infogrames helpdesk, but I'm afraid that all
they will tell me is to install the latest drivers.
