If anyone's gunna be able to tell me....

reinstalled GPL after a few yrs break, but she's giving me grief!

1.  annoying video problem (not major) - on menu screens the cursor and
a block of the image (5 x 15 ish pixels?) goes funny - moving the mouse
creates a new and mobile cursor but leaves the weirdness happening.

2.  annoying sound problem (*really* annoying) - sound is fine UNTIL i
crash (usually within 10 - 15 seconds of starting out).  then, when i
restart from the pits, i have ZERO sound.

system: p2 - 300 clunker
                8mb voodoo2
                ess technologies es1869 sound card

and before you ask - yes, i have installed the latest drivers.

Thanks,

MTM

The Voodoo2 doesn't have a hardware cursor so this is probably a driver
issue.
You could try the older 2.53 drivers, or the Glide2x patch-o-matic to see if
that helps.
My Gf4's fan died a while back & I had to RMA it. I pulled out my V2's & ran
gpl on them (in win2k) using the 1.02beta drivers with no problem, although
they slowed down to a crawl with the latest gplea cars, so I just used the
original ones.

Could be an IRQ conflict, but try opening dxdiag.exe (start, run, dxdiag)
and lowering the sound accelleration on the sound page. This can help with
SB Live cards, and might help with yours. You could also try upping the no.
sounds heard to 16 (max) in gpl.

You should be able to run gpl fine, but too many graphics updates will
really kill the framerate. If you have installed any addons, try removing
them all & adding them back one at a time to see if one of those is causing
problems.

sound problems: have you turned down hw acceleration a bit?

Dunno, sorry.  Don't remember getting these issues on my original
Voodoo or Rendition cards, or the V3 3000 that I had.

Zero sound full stop or zero engine sound?  Could be the number of
sounds heard is too low.  I had a Fortissimo III for a little while
and the sounds heard value dropped to 3, I got a similar result.  I
was sure before I got that card that the minmum heard was 4, but my
memory is not what it once was.  In fact is has never been...

OS?  DirectX version? Not that it makes any difference to any answers
I could give.

What *are* the latest drivers for a V2?

Regards,

Mark

That sounds like an IRQ conflict.  Check the settings for the video and sound
cards...
