When I've tried the demo of GPL off magazine cover CDs, it has always
crashed before even any title screen. My 3DFX setup seems to work just fine
with any other game or demo I've tried, so I was wondering if...

(a) it was crashing (Illegal Instruction) because i have a Cyrix 686
processor
(b) it's compatible with the 686
and
(c) that was a problem with the demo which is fixed in the release..

Any ideas anyone?

This is from the GPL readme file:

CYRIX 6x86 ISSUES

GPL uses a Pentium instruction which is not supported by the 6x86, and as
such GPL will not run on this CPU.  It will run on later Cyrix chips such as
the MX and MII, the AMD K5 and K6, in addition to all genuine Intel Pentium
chips.
