To Cyrix or not to Cyrix?

To Cyrix or not to Cyrix?

I am upgrading from a P75.  Tiger Software has what seems like a good deal on a
6x86 Cyrix P166+ motherboard with 16mb for under $500 (including case).

I have not played a computer game since Intel made the 8086, then I discoverd
ICR2, NASCAR and GP2 and am now completely hooked on these simulations. The P75
is acceptable with ICR2 and the Reactor card but I know that I need more
horsepower.

The posts about the Cyrix have not been encouraging but it's difficult to
believe that a CPU manufactured by IBM would not be 100% compatible with Intel.
But hopefully I'm no fool either, and I do not want to ignore the benefit of
the experience gained by current 6x86 users.

What about the three simulations? Can ICR2 only be run in INDYSAFE with the
6x86?  Has anybody found a fix?  I have not read about any problems with GP2
and the 6x86, is it safe to assume that there are none?  NASCAR2 is yet to be
released and I gotta' believe that Sierra is addressing the incompatibility
problems and will have them fixed before final release.

I'm looking for advice.  Would you get the 6x86 P166+ for the extra performance
and lower price, or stay away from it because of the problems with the
simulations?
