Have you ever seen Mika Hakkinen sitting on the roll bar, or flying behind
his car when racing?
-Jan Otto
Why do you care what view other people use to drive their cars? I use
the chase view to drive for three reasons:
1) I can't stand that damn wind-blast noise
2) With computer graphics the way they are right now,
there are many tracks in GPL that it's nearly
impossible to judge distance to the next turn
because of the psycho-dithering(TM) that goes on
in the rendered scene.
3) It's easier judge how much road is available to
you to slide sideways across. :-)
My selected driving mode has nothing at all to do with and has no impact
on your enjoyment of the sim.
The curious thing is that when I drove Nascar2, I couldn't get used to
driving from the chase view, so I always drove in-car...

drivingView = 1 ; driving view
I *think* you have to change the number to "5", but it *could* be some other
number from 1 to 12 (some of them will have the same views). Close the file
saving the change. Back in the game you should be able to have the roll-bar
cam as the standard driving view. But careful, once you hit F10 all returns
to normal.
I would only reccomend this view if the in-car view framerate is WAY too low
as there are no mirrors and it's not that realistic. But if you like
it...there you go!
Hope that helped,

I switched from arcade to in-car so I would have access to mirrors
for online racing. I'd say that does have some impact on others
enjoyment of the sim (if they're trying to pass you online). :)
YMMV.
"But in a way, fear is a big part of racing, because if there was
nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into
a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." ---- Jim Clark

And just because one of the course-workers is waving a blue flag at me
doesn't necessarily mean I have to change my driving style to accomodate
a kamikazi driver who may just as easily take me out when getting beside
me in the turn as he is to rear-end me.
No mirrors - and I take my chances just like everyone else.
