Nascar 2003 crashes XP

by Claude Lecler » Tue, 20 Jan 2004 22:45:30

I searched in the news and there was a trend back in august that seems to
relate to my problem.

I just upgraded to a P4P800 m/b, 2x256Mb Hyper-X dual channel, P4 2.8C.
I used Det 52.16 on a Ti4600 and did a fresh install of XP Pro.
I tried N2003 on an NTFS and FAT32 drive with the same results:

I use 3D Setup to setup basic graphics then starts N2003. I setup everthing
and I can play, no problem.
But, when I exit it crashes XP without saving my settings!!!
Another things that crashes it the same way is selecting 3D configure in the
main menu of N2003.
Because of the august trend I played with Sound hardware accelaration
without any success.

Seems to be graphics related?
Can anyone with a setup close to mine comment on success or problems on
their side?
Anything I missed?

Thanks.

Have you patched nr2k3?  ANd have you tried both the d3d and the opengl
graphic options?

So long as all your hardware is installed properly and functioning (no
Yellow Exclaimation/Question marks in the Hardware/Device Manager) then I
may would go back down the Detonator line. Sometimes the newer ones won't
work either (like older ones). I am using a GF FX 5600 Ultra with Win XP Pro
(albeit in an AMD sytem on an Asus A7N8X Deluxe board) and I think the
drivers that my system and Nr2003 like best are in the 48.xx range or
thereabouts. This is even given that I have installed DX9.0b as a part of
Call of Duty and all still runs well, knock on wood. :-)

I have the same m/b, but with a Ati 9800 pro. I also had problems with
crashes when I hit the exit or retire button. It turned out to be the
onboard sound as lowering the acceleration one click solved it. At least
something to try

Pascal.

I tried unpatched, latest patch and D3D and OGL with same result :-(.

I downloaded the 30.82 drivers and will give it a try tonight. These were my
best performance drivers in W98.
I will add a 48.xx to my list.

Thanks.

I've disabled the onboard sound, I'm using a Audigy.
I will try the latest Audigy drivers tonight.
It looks like a graphic card drivers problem but we never knows.

Try disabling all sound and try it. This should help you narrow down wether
it's a video or sound problem.

I have the same asus mb and have been using onboard sound with a gf4ti4200 and xp, N2003 was crashing during a race within 5
laps(computer restarted) and once in the options menu(to desktop) using 52.16 drivers, in installed the 53.03 drivers and have
completed a 14 laps race with no problem(but only one race). I have sound hardware acceleration checked on(sounds drop out with it
off) and i think about 12 sounds.

Terry.

Nascar 2003 crashes XP

I have the same m/b and memory, and had many crashes with NR2003, until I
finally called Kingston. They setup my memory settings (which are much more
aggressive than the defaults were), and I haven't had a problem since with
NR2003 or any other app. XP and everything on it is running very stable.
Good luck
BTW, Kingston tech support was fast and easy.

Could you please elaborate on "setup my memory settings" please? What did
you change?

TIA

Before I made the changes shown below (as per Kingston tech support), I
downloaded and ran MemTest (do an online search, should be easy to find),
which detect numerous memory errors. After making the changes, I ran the
test again, and no memory errors were detected... I've been running trouble
free since Sept. 03, but I still recommend that you call Kingston, things
might have changed since Sept.

BIOS settings
Advanced
-DDR Ref. Voltage (2.65v)
Advanced Chipset Settings
-Configure Dram Timing by SPD (Disabled)
the above setting will open up the following:
-Dram CAS# Latency (2.0 clocks)
-Dram RAS# Precaharge (2 clocks)
-RAS# to CAS# Delay (3 clocks)
-Precharge Delay (6 clocks)
-Burst Length (8 clocks)

MAM (Auto)
Dram Idle Timer (Auto)
Dram Refresh Rate (Auto)

Nascar 2003 crashes XP

I installed the latest XP Creative Drivers for my audigy and N2003 is now
working like a charm. No more crashing XP.
As most pointed out, it was indeed a sound problem!
My memory is close to Tom's memory setting. Only my precharge is at 3
instead of 2 and I use 2.75 volts but I have an overclocked bus at 225Mhz.

Thanks for your inputs.
