GPL, TSW and squash ball

by Darko Juva » Sun, 19 Dec 1999 04:00:00

I have TSW and I would like to try "squash ball" breaking technique. I
bought squash ball (dunlop black with 2 yellow dots - the softest/slowest),
I cut it in a half and to my surprise, ball was hollow. Nobody can use that
to give more resistance under break pedal. So, I have two questions:

1. Sounds funny but, what type of squash ball is best suited for this
purpose?

2. I opened TSW pedal controller box and couldn't find a good place for a
squash ball. Can anybody describe how and where to put this ball in TSW?

Thank you in advance.

That's the right ball and, yes, it is hollow.  Whether it can be used with
your particular pedals I don't know.  On many pedals it can simply be wedged
between the back of the pedal and the pedal base (without opening the base)
and it works quite well.

Nice to see my trick is still around. The idea is to have the ball firmly
between your pedal and some type of backstop that is immovable. You can use any
size or type of ball, but in theory a hollow ball is better than solid because
the air will "stiffen" the pedal feel as it is compressed. You should also
consider using two different balls to get more back pressure from the brake
pedal. Additionally by placing the ball higher or lower on the pedal you can
vary the pedal travel and feel due to leverage ratios. As for the backstop... I
can tell you how to build a***pit for $30 but that's another story.

I have the CH Pro pedals, and bought a squash ball for it last week
(single white dot). It fits perfectly under the brake pedal, I used
double sided tape to keep it firmly in place.
It made a huge improvement on my braking!

Andre,

May I conclude you don't cut the ball open but mount it on the pedal base (or
underneath the pedal itself)?

Indeed, I forgot to mention that I didn't cut the ball open. I mounted
it with double sided tape on the base. Works like a charm!
I also tried it with my lwff pedals, but those are not really suited
for this imho, the brake pedal and its range is too small.

I read that the MSFF pedals were perfect for fitting a squash ball,
there was allready room in the base for it in which you can put the
ball, even without using tape afaik. I don't know this for sure as I
don't have the MSFF.

Hi!

I have the MSFF.  However, I use a Penn Raquetball -- which I'm sure gives
me much better performance than a squash ball. ;-)

I cut the ball in half, and wedge it curved side up in the slot under the
brake pedal.  Fits great, and doesn't even need tape to hold it in place.
