GPL 1.1 a V2 problem ? V3 MSFF Timing Errors.

by Karl Branki » Mon, 12 Jul 1999 04:00:00

Hi
I`ve got a V3 and have not noticed any slowdown problems at all with 1.1 in
fact the game runs slightly faster showing 37 and even 38 FPS.
Reading the posts it seems that it could be a v2 problem - perhaps with the
new rasteriser.

BTW I`m using a MSFF wheel and find the feedback very strong - set to medium
strength in the MS control panel. I find it qite hard to steer and maintain
a line through some of the faster corners at monza.
It will take quite a bit of work to get back to breaking 1 min 30.
But, FF is a great addition thanks Papy and all involved.
I hope everyone else`s problems get sorted for this great game.

The one thing that is the timing errors (game time v real time ) which will
make a mess of lap times. Not experienced this myself presumably linked to
the slowdowns ?
However, if mine running a bit fast this too would put the timings out ?

Thanks

Karl

GPL slowed down after installing the patch. But when I removed the
network headings ni the cor.ini the framerate is  acceptable now
(30fps Monza training). TNT2. Maybe V2 or V3 faster?

BTW Turning vsync off improves framerate but results in strange
flickering picture in upper left corner.

Nah, nothing to do with V2...  I use it and haven't had any problems. It's
got to be something in the software setup of those guys (OS, DUN, DirectX,
3D drivers, .....).

Try changing "max_steering_torque" value in core.ini
I am using  275.000000 and works better than default.

Try running a full field and setting your latency to 0....then see if you
have problems.

Like I said no problems... I am running a full field. Using Eric Cote's
core.ini, but with the old 84/3 core no problems. Like I said, I think the
difficulties are due to the variety in systems and software setups in use
today. We need to gather as much info 'bout the troublesome systems as
possible.

I had a problem with V1.0 a while back.... wouldn't start, hung on splash
screen. Turns out my modem had crashed, GPL was not receiving the right
response and therefore wouldn't continue past the initialisation fase.
Turning the modem off and on cured the problem. Can't help but think the
problems these people are experiencing are external to GPL as well.

YOU are not having problems... are the clients??? I think they are! lol

??- I haven't hosted with V1.1 yet (I have, but no-one seemed to be
interested in joining, too busy whining about the patch I guess). All I've
posted was from the client and single player prespective.

I have no troubles online or offline, no matter what core.ini I use
 Eric's, Allison's, 84/3, none, ....). Therefore it's my opinion that
external factors are at work here.

You guys out to misunderstand me or what?

Go to replay mode and check a lap time against a stopwatch.  You'll discover a
problem REAL quick.  This timing problem is likely what's making online races
go haywire using the new sync method.  Some people running fast, others slow,
and everyone's pc adjusting it's realtime framerate trying to coordinate.  You
get crazy slowdowns and speedups.  If they can fix the timer, the new sync
method should be a real help, though.

Cheers,

Steve B.
