1.1 patch and MSFF wheel?

by Kurt Steinboc » Sat, 10 Jul 1999 04:00:00

I can't get the patch to work with MicroSucks wheel (wheel works with other
games).  I added the lines to core.ini.  But when I go into Windows Game
Controllers, I can't get into the Settings, Information or Test Forces tabs.
I get a message saying "This page is not available because the Sidewinder
Game Controller Software could not initialize force feedback."

Anybody else run into this?  Anybody got a suggestion?  Anybody want to get
me a tissue while I weep uncontrollably?

Thanks

Kurt

Try removing the MS FF Wheel from your game controllers page. The, re-add
it. If that doesn't work, try re-loading the MS Sidewinder software. I just
tried it with my MS FF Wheel and the force is fantastic.

1.1 patch and MSFF wheel?

I had this same thing happen to me awhile back, when I had the wheel hooked
through a switching device, so I could switch between a joystick, and a wheel.
The wheel worked fine in all respects except the force effects. Plug the wheel
directly into the computer and it may help. BTW I called Microsoft  help at the
time and they said I needed a new soundcard something about the Midi function
was not strong enough on my original card. They were going to send me some
stupid cable that "might" help, that never came and I discovered a direct
connection to the computer was all I needed.

Hope this helps
Chris

Thanks, Walk --

I found the culprit.  I had installed a joystick "switcher" and that was
jazzing up the signal somehow.  With MSFF Wheel plugged directly into the
soundcard, the force works great.  Awesome, even.

Dear Bill Gates;

I'm really sorry I called your company MicroSuck in my prior post.  I really
do love my wheel, honest.  It's great.  Now GPL gives people a really great
reason to own one, too.

I made a short 1' heavy gauge cable to my switch box and that helped my problems with MS Sidewinder Joystick. I dont have a FF wheel
but maybe I need to get one. :)

MS uses the Midi signal lines to control the Force Feedback feature.  I
suspect the switch boxes being used do not pass these signals properly
out to the wheel.

In all liklihood, they don't pass those signals AT ALL. Most of these
switchboxes and gameport cards don't include a proper MIDI interfaces and
therefore, won't work at all.
