Coming to    ***The US Pits***    ....this weekend!
[I'm not doing Loudon....for now at least.]

Here's a report from one of my beta testers:

*****************************************************
Tom,
Ran the Richmond Beta Track Re-Textures tonight online with my brother, he
had 2 words to say,  "Freakin' Awesome", I had to censor that a bit ;)  He
says he "FELT LIKE HE WAS THERE" !!!!!!  He has just 1 question for ya, "He
wants to know if you can find a way to add the smell of smoke, *** and
fumes"??  ;) LOL, other than that like he said "HE FELT LIKE HE WAS STRAPPED
IN AND ON THE TRACK FOR REAL".  Anyways, thought you would like to hear
that.....  Talk to ya later, enjoy the night...

Duane

Regards,

Tom

<snip self-congratulatory stuff>

Please Tom, keep the advertising off the NG. Release your hard work, and let
the people here decide if it "feels like I was there".

I'm sure your stuff is well done, and your effort is appreciated by the
community. But we all get enough hype already; do we need to pollute the NG
with it too?

Yes I too do not mind the updates.  I have yet to get these enhancements as
I do not want to take a FPS hit.  But from the screens I have seen the
difference is amazing.  Thanks for donating your efforts.  SDager34

Rob...

I can really appreciate what you are saying.....and I agree with you
regarding the need to keep "hype" at a minimum on this newsgroup or any
other for that matter.

I would like to explain why I do occasionally make these posts about the
track re-textures I've been doing, please bare with me:

    1.  The tracks are posted at The US Pits....not my own website.  I have
nothing really to gain by "hyping" my track re-textures...since it sends
"traffic/hits" to The US Pits, not Pabst-Racing.com.

    2.  I do it for a couple reasons (and I do try to keep the posts short
and infrequent):
        a.  It cuts down on the amount of email I get from people asking
what track(s) I'm doing next....and the usual "request" for doing the
writer's favorite track.....it cut that kind of email for one week...nearly
in half.  Perhaps you can think of another way I can cut down on the number
of these private email messages....I'd be glad to try it your way.
        b.  I have had many requests to post announcements here when a track
is ready for download at The US Pits, and to include either screenshots or
any "positive feedback" from beta testers or others in the sim community
that already have the track(s).  This comes primarily from people who are
still on 56K dialups....they don't want to tie up their connections for a
couple hours on something that might not be that good.  There's a lot of
"track re-texture" work out on sim sites....that frankly, isn't very good
work (we've all experienced this I'm sure).  So, I can sympathize with those
people still on 56K dialups.  Can't you?

Perhaps this won't totally justify why I "announce" (not "hype") the track
re-texture postings at The US Pits.......as far as you are concerned?  If a
majority of r.a.s'er share your view, I guess I will have to stop doing it.
But, I kind of thought 3 or 4 posts a month about this wasn't so bad.

Regards,

Tom

I was gonna email and tell ya how to cut down on the emails but then I
figured that would defeat the purpose...

If somebody invests time and talent and does a great job on creating
something, why shouldn't he be proud of it and talk about it a little? I
mean, it's not as if Tom had written pages, all he wrote was a short little
message.

Thanks for the great stuff you're bringing us, Tom!

How would people Find it if you don't tell people where it's at?

I'm just wondering, what work have you contributed to the community besides
these kind of mental giant posts? The guy works for hours and hours to
provide everyone something for their enjoyment, but by god he better not
waste 24 lines that could be better spent letting people know their gplrank
is now -4!

Maybe you should redirect your post-nazism to the myriad of off topic posts
here, or better yet, just STFU.

Hugs and Kisses.
