Rob...
I can really appreciate what you are saying.....and I agree with you
regarding the need to keep "hype" at a minimum on this newsgroup or any
other for that matter.
I would like to explain why I do occasionally make these posts about the
track re-textures I've been doing, please bare with me:
1. The tracks are posted at The US Pits....not my own website. I have
nothing really to gain by "hyping" my track re-textures...since it sends
"traffic/hits" to The US Pits, not Pabst-Racing.com.
2. I do it for a couple reasons (and I do try to keep the posts short
and infrequent):
a. It cuts down on the amount of email I get from people asking
what track(s) I'm doing next....and the usual "request" for doing the
writer's favorite track.....it cut that kind of email for one week...nearly
in half. Perhaps you can think of another way I can cut down on the number
of these private email messages....I'd be glad to try it your way.
b. I have had many requests to post announcements here when a track
is ready for download at The US Pits, and to include either screenshots or
any "positive feedback" from beta testers or others in the sim community
that already have the track(s). This comes primarily from people who are
still on 56K dialups....they don't want to tie up their connections for a
couple hours on something that might not be that good. There's a lot of
"track re-texture" work out on sim sites....that frankly, isn't very good
work (we've all experienced this I'm sure). So, I can sympathize with those
people still on 56K dialups. Can't you?
Perhaps this won't totally justify why I "announce" (not "hype") the track
re-texture postings at The US Pits.......as far as you are concerned? If a
majority of r.a.s'er share your view, I guess I will have to stop doing it.
But, I kind of thought 3 or 4 posts a month about this wasn't so bad.
Regards,
Tom
