GPL calibration delay

by SteveBla » Wed, 27 Jan 1999 04:00:00

Just another observation on the well-documented drifting steering center in
GPL.  When I re-calibrate after my centering has gone***eyed again between
menus(using the direct input drivers, as my Wingman Formula won't work with the
generics), the center reading will abruptly change values if I wait 5-10
seconds after doing the left-right-center routine.  My wheel delivers values of
1 and 654 at the ends, as Logitech says it should. No jitter, and it looks good
in all the various joystick utlities.  The center reading with a vertical wheel
should be 327 or so((right # - left #)/2), and is under initial calibration,
but often reads 315-345 initially after the glitch occurs.  Here's the thing;
if I'll just wait long enough, not touching the wheel; bingo!  The 315-345 will
suddenly change to 329.  ALWAYS 329, and the wheel position reading above the
calibration value, which should be at or near 0.00, changes along with it, all
without touching a thing. Once it's there, it stays at 329; so it's not a jumpy
reading.  Odd.  Anyone else noticed this???
