GPL Calibration Problems

by Brian Po » Sun, 18 Oct 1998 04:00:00

I have a TSW and cannot get it calibrated to save my life in GPL anymore.
The car always pulls to the left.  I can exit the pit lane at Monza in
training without turning the wheel as it just turns out on its own.  I
have recalibrated about 50 times and it keeps doing it.  I am turning the
wheel absolutely to the locks in both directions.

It was working fine.  All I did was not drive for a few days.  I replace
the pot in the TSW a few weeks ago, but GPL worked fine once I got it
calibrated (again, had to re-adjust the pot a couple of times, but it was
working).

Also, the pot is nicely centered now - wasn't the first time I tried it
when I replaced it, but it is now.  And again, this was a few weeks ago
and it worked fine until tonight (great, just when I have time to
practice!!).

I am using DirectInput.  I have tried the Generic to no avail.

The wheel works fine in the Viper Racing Demo and in Nascar Racing 2.

I know all about the pot inside the TSW and I have tried it with the
cover off and it's not moving around or anything.  I did replace it the
other day, but again, it works great in everything else.

Is there some special secret to calibrating in GPL?

I hate to ask this, but I'm assuming you've recalibrated in the
Win95/98 Control Panel?

The only somewhat similar problem I've had with my TSW pulling to one
side in any sim was when the entire pot itself started turning in its
bracket, because the hex nut that secures it had loosened.

Brian,

About your calibration problem, I'm guessing that you tried to deinstall and
then reinstall GPL.  For no particular reason (this was right after trying
out VROC, which, I must admit, I found rather too cumbersome-- so there
might have been a connection) my GP1 wheel just quit working inside GPL.
The buttons worked by not the steering axis.  After reconfiguring and
testing inside of Win98 the only thing left to do was to desinstall and then
reinstall.

I did that and now my wheel works perfectly.

I think VROC's great for a 1st draft. My poor attempt to guide you through
the process probably didn't help your first impression much :-)
