Hi,

Try changing the joystick option in the options menu from "Optimized" to
"Direct input". That solved a problem I had which was sort of similar.

Cheers!

I have exactly the same problem you have! Funny thing is, I had a
preinstalled
Win98 on this system, but I reinstalled Win95 (oh yes, generally this
makes sense!). On Win98 I got it to work, now on Win95 it freezes. What
the...

Anybody else had that problem, maybe with a solution?

Try this...

When you installed GPL, first the files unzipped, then the Sierra Installer
ran (and copied all the files to a ../Sierra/gpl directory. If you do a Find
on your harddrive and look for gpl.exe, I think you will find TWO copies of
it. One will be in the Sierra directory, the other will be in the directory
where you ran the installer from. The Sierra directory gpl.exe file works,
the other DOES NOT (freezes at calibration)

Once you've found the one that works, you can delete the other one and the
directory that it is in.. those files are totally useless (very annoying of
Sierra to do this - wasting my harddrive space!).

Try that.. that should work!

If not, go to my webpage and follow the installation instructions for
Windows 98 installation. It may work (what have you got to lose?) I haven't
met one person yet that hasn't been able to get it up and running after
following my instructions step-by-step.

Sounds like the problem I had initially, even without having a
joystick selected in the Win95 control panel, it'd sit there and allow
me calibrate, sort of, but I couldn't press the OK button => the mouse
wouldn't move. I had to Ctrl-Alt-Del kill GPL every time.

I turned off animated cursors in the Control Panel/Mouse applet and
suddenly it all started working for me.

I had the same problem when I skipped a step in the manual installation
for Win98. The problem, for me, was that the config or calibration
directory didn't exist. The game tries to write its config file, and
fails. Try reinstalling, or follow the manual setup instructions.
