GPL, Win98, locking calibration screen

by MindSpring Use » Tue, 08 Sep 1998 04:00:00

I just got my new 400 MHz Dell, popped in a
Diamond Monster Voodoo2 and was hot to
give the GPL demo a go.

I followed all the instructions as to getting it to
work on Win98, and was able to drive some
laps at Watkins Glen.  Cool.

I then tried to get Monza to work, putting the
Monza subdirectory under ..\tracks, etc. and
moving the watglen directory (this worked fine
at work on a different machine, Win95, though).
But on my Win98 machine, when I tried to launch
the program, the wait/busy cursor popped up
for a second and then it quit.

Okay, now big deal, I'll just enjoy Watkins Glen until
the real game is released.  However, after restoring
watglen, removing monza --- same thing.

So I did a compete re-install, and now at the
controller calibration screen, I can't leave this screen.
Other than performing the calibration, the screen
takes no input - can't click on the green flag, nor the
arrows.  Even CTL-ALT-DELETE isn't caught.
The only way out is to power-cycle the machine.

I tried re-installing the demo several times, same result.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Dave

I don't believe you're following my EXACT instructions from my page:
http://webhome.idirect.com/~drbryan/gpl
These are the COMPLETE tried and tested instructions for making GPL work
with Windows 98

Do not let the Sierra Installer install GPL !! Follow my instructions
step-by-step.. and it should work. Post here, or email me if this still does
not work..

For the GPL track files, FAQ (I've got it!), installation help, release date
updates, and more!
