TSW GPL Calibration Problems

by Bertram Hoenigman » Fri, 19 Feb 1999 04:00:00

For various reasons, over the past 2 months, I have had no time to
devote to GPL or other driving sims.  (Sad, I know...)

Today, when I finally was able to fire GPL up again, I found that my TSW
Wheel was pulling hard to the right, so I tried re-calibrating.
Although the wheel recalibrated OK, I'm having problems calibrating the
throttle pedal.  When I press it down  anywhere past approximately
halfway, GPL reports that the throttle is unassigned.  (And, sure
enough, when I try to drive, I have no throttle.)  In the GPL
calibration screen, the pedals do seem a bit jumpy.  In the Win95
Control Panel, calibration of the wheel and pedals works fine, and is
less jumpy.

I'm running on separate axes, and am using the Direct Input driver in
GPL.

This probably is a stupid question, but I suspect that the pedal pots
might have gone bad (or are dirty), since I've never replaced them since
I bought the TSW last June.  (I have cleaned the steering pot already)
I would say that the TSW has received moderate use since I got it.

Does this sound like a reasonable assumption, or is there something else
that I should try first?

Thanks a lot.

Try using the generic input. Before switching to a digital wheel I used a
Thrustmaster (analog like the TSW) and had similar problems using the direct
input in GPL.

Doug,

I use a T2 from Thrustmaster, and have it setup as a direct input in
gpl. In the FAQs and in the tech. sections at VROC,they strongly
recommend using direct input over generic.

That's because the generic disables the interrupts and may cause
problems with some serial modems.  However, most people have "pole with
interrupts" disabled in their Windows' Game Controllers settings, which
equals the same thing as generic.  I used generic all the time with my
serial modem and had no problems.  I think it is tied to how some
motherboard's chipsets are designed.
